Tour update - room for one more? 😉 Places on the 2028 editions of our tours have been going like hot cakes this weekend. Our Serbian butterfly tour is down to just one place left. Worth the wait? Absolutely yes! mariposanature.com/tours/but…

Pyrenean Clouded Apollo is one of the most fascinating European butterfly stories of this year. Research has revealed that Pyrenean populations of what was hitherto thought to be simply Clouded Apollo are genetically highly distinct from it. ibe.upf-csic.es/news/-/asset…

It goes without saying our leaders have excellent knowledge of butterfly ecology - we wouldn't be as good at finding rare species as we are otherwise! Our Hautes Pyrenees tour is led by Chris van Swaay, BCE co-founder & European butterfly expert. mariposanature.com/tours/but…

Great job!!!
Postcard live from the field. OMG! Well that's huge. For the second consecutive year our Autumn Exotica in Andalusia guests have enjoyed a babul blue species, the rarest of African butterfly vagrants to mainland Europe. And this year it's a different species: African Babul Blue!

Always a pleasure to co-lead with my dear friends from Mariposa! What a wonderful trip we had!
Home after an amazing week of butterflies & an eclipse in Spain's beautiful Montes Universales. And while both were fabulous, it was the people who made the week so special. Wonderful guests, and an incredible team of leaders. Thank you, everyone. A once in a lifetime experience.

As I'm home from co-leading the @mariposanature Butterflies of the Montes Universales tour, and will be co-leading it again next year with one of my Spanish friends, it seems a good time to share some of my favourite species from the region, starting with Spanish Chalkhill Blue.

Day 7 of the @Mariposa_Nature holiday to the Italian & French Alps had to contend with our first grey skies. Despite this, we were delighted to see this Large Tortoiseshell, Alcon Blue & Purple Shot Copper. It took us to a record 118 species for the week, with a day to go – at Saint-Laurent-du-Var, France
