Day 1 of the Addis Ababa Lightning Developer Bootcamp is in the books. 🇪🇹⚡
Today, our instructor, @Extheo, took participants through the foundations of Bitcoin, starting with the evolution of money, why Bitcoin exists, and the problems it was designed to solve.
We explored:
• The Bitcoin White Paper
• The double spend problem
• Blockchain fundamentals
• Mining
• Transactions and validation
• Bitcoin halving
In the afternoon, we got hands on by installing the latest version of Bitcoin Core binary release from GitHub and testing RPC commands to interact with a Bitcoin node.
Tomorrow, we'll continue with more practical sessions, diving into wallet operations and building on today's foundation.
A huge thank you to our sponsors and partners for making this bootcamp possible: @HRF , @btrustteam , @Tether_Africa , @planb_network , @afribitcoiners , and @BitDevsAddis .

We’re excited to announce the first batch of 2026 Btrust event grant recipients. 🚀
For many developers, the first step into Bitcoin open source is a meetup, workshop, hackathon, conference talk, or technical session where they see that bitcoin is not just something to use, but something they can build on and contribute to.
This round, we’re supporting eight events across Africa and beyond.

Last week we had the pleasure of supporting @btcplusplus Nairobi 🇰🇪, the first bitcoin++ conference in Africa and the first-ever open source edition.
Over three incredible days, we saw developers, researchers, educators, and builders come together to explore Bitcoin, Lightning, privacy, mining, open-source development, developer tooling, financial infrastructure, and the future of building on Bitcoin. It was inspiring to see so many ideas turn into working projects tackling real-world challenges.
We're especially proud of the strong representation from our community, with members speaking across the conference and teams building projects that earned recognition across multiple hackathon categories.
A huge thank you to @niftynei and the entire bitcoin++ team for bringing this milestone event to Africa, as well as the speakers, mentors, judges, volunteers, sponsors, and every attendee who made it such a success.
We're excited to see the projects, collaborations, and conversations that started here continue long after the conference.
See you next year! 🚀
