Today marks the anniversary of the Battle of Caporetto. Also known as the 12th Battle of the Isonzo, it was one of the most significant battles of World War I along the Italian Front. Fought between the Italians and the Central Powers, between October 24 - November 19, 1917.

Edith Louisa Cavell was a British nurse who was executed on this day in 1915. Known for aiding soldiers from both sides of the war without discrimination. Helping 200 Allied soldiers escape German-occupied Belguim, she got the death penanlty under the German military law.
