🚨 BREAKING: Arda Güler has defended Kylian Mbappé amid the ongoing controversy with China. “I find it extremely disturbing that the Chinese government has chosen to turn Kylian Mbappé’s comments into a diplomatic issue. Wasn’t Mbappé supposed to be the one who was offended? A Chinese content creator made a joke about him, and he simply responded and laughed about it. Yet the Chinese government has taken the matter extremely seriously. Let me make something very clear: Mbappé is French and a Real Madrid player. I will never stand by and watch one of the most celebrated sporting figures in the world become a target of political intimidation. I don’t understand why Beijing is behaving as though a footballer’s comments constitute a threat to an entire nation. Is China so uncomfortable with criticism that it cannot distinguish between a personal remark and an official diplomatic position? We have a responsibility to protect our fellow citizens, and that responsibility does not disappear simply because the country involved happens to be China. If Beijing believes it can pressure France into abandoning one of its own over a football controversy, it has seriously misunderstood our position. Real Madrid will not be dictated to, intimidated or blackmailed over the personal opinions of our player, especially when his comments were made jokingly and were never an official statement. China should think very carefully before allowing this situation to escalate into something with consequences far beyond football. Kylian Mbappé represents an important part of Real Madrid’s and La Liga’s sporting identity, and we will not apologise for standing up for him. Our relationship with China matters, but it does not give Beijing the authority to decide which French citizens deserve our protection. Mbappé is my best friend, and I, Arda Güler, must speak up for him, regardless of whether other players choose to remain silent.”
I seriously believe this whole Kylian Mbappé and China saga is a targeted attack, especially because he is Black. There is no way a small joke made by Mbappé should generate this level of controversy, to the point where an entire country is discussing boycotting La Liga. Madridxtra and Madrid Zone also made a huge mistake in the way they presented that interview. This proves what I have been saying: Real Madrid does not know how to stand up for its own players or defend them when they come under attack. I am convinced that if this were Lamine Yamal at Barcelona, the club and its fans would have defended him to the fullest. I think Arda Güler was one of the few who showed him support. The way they framed the interview did not accurately reflect what Kylian actually said, and now that misleading narrative is being pushed everywhere, with Chinese media buying into it. Honestly, this situation should never have escalated this far. Football fans have spent years making dictator jokes about Mbappé, and everyone found it funny. Now he has openly admitted that he finds those jokes funny too, and suddenly he deserves to be crucified for it? The whole thing is ridiculous. I can understand people taking offence, but the reaction is completely disproportionate to what was actually said. It is difficult not to question whether there is something deeper behind all this. FFS! I am a fan of both Mbappé and Arda Güler, and the last thing I want is to see either of them subjected to unnecessary hatred or harm.
