Pat Murphy says becoming a father completely changed the way he coached, and now every player he views and coaches as somebody else’s son “It’s got to be real, man. You can’t just say it. You’ve got to live it. When it’s about your kid, when you’re raising kids by yourself, you’re clueless, man. You don’t know what you’re doing. I don’t know what I’m doing. I didn’t have that kind of, my parents were way older than me, so I don’t know how to parent. I don’t know what I’m doing, but it’s really important to me.” “And I started thinking about it like, every kid I coach is somebody’s Kai Joseph. You know what I mean? Every kid I coach, they have parents who love their kid the way I love my kid.” “Wow, I’ve got to be a little mindful how I treat these guys. I’ve got to be a little mindful about, like, it’s my job.” “This profession isn’t about the wins and losses. This profession is about, how do I impact this person?

More than a decade ago, the Brewers sold 1,000 "Timeless Tickets" for $1,000 each, promising that they could be redeemed for any Brewers home game between now and when the sun finally engulfs the earth. Even in the year 2050, even in Game 7 of the World Series. They got A MILLION DOLLARS for almost nothing, and who knows how much they've made on that low-overhead influx of cash since 2015. But now that the Brewers are actually in the World Series, people are coming forward to redeem their Timeless Tickets, and apparently the organization is giving some of them a hard time. World Series tickets in Milwaukee are sold out at face value and some are going for as much as $15,000 on the resale market. The very cheapest SRO tickets just to get into the ballpark are reselling for far more than the cost of a Timeless Ticket. But I'll tell you what: the best possible look for the Brewers organization would not only be to honor the Timeless Tickets as promised, but to make the process SO unbelievably fun and easy for the folks that parted with $1,000 back on the eve of Khris Davis's FIRST season batting .247, when the Brewers went 68-94 to finish in fourth place.
I just randomly thought about when the brewers had a timeless ticket.

A cancer drug just passed its Phase 3 trial, and the active ingredient comes from Cold War nuclear bomb material the US government was paying to destroy. The drug is actinium-225 attached to a peptide that hunts down a receptor on neuroendocrine tumor cells. Once it docks, the actinium fires off alpha particles that travel only 2 to 3 cell widths before stopping. The tumor cell dies. The healthy cell next door barely notices. The science was the easy part. Actinium-225 is one of the rarest usable substances on earth. For decades, nearly the entire global supply came from a single thorium-229 sample at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, milked about 8 times a year, yielding roughly 1.2 curies annually. Enough for clinical trials and not much else. That was the whole planet's supply. Thorium-229 decays out of uranium-233, material the US produced for its nuclear weapons program. The Department of Energy classified that stockpile as waste and has spent years paying contractors to dispose of it. Then someone realized the waste contained the parent isotope of the best cancer-killing atom we've ever found. Bill Gates's TerraPower now partners with the DOE contractor to pull thorium-229 out of the uranium before it gets destroyed. They've extracted over 15 grams so far. Before this project, about 1 gram existed outside Oak Ridge in the entire world. At full scale, that one recovery effort yields around 90 curies of actinium-225 per year, enough to make 100x more doses than humanity could produce before. Bristol Myers Squibb paid $4.1 billion for RayzeBio, the startup behind this drug, before the Phase 3 even read out. They built a plant in Indianapolis that ships every dose within 3 days of production, because actinium-225 has a 10-day half-life. The medicine decays while it travels. The best cancer-killing atom we know of spent 60 years sitting in a Tennessee stockpile marked for disposal.
BREAKING: A radioactive peptide that targets cancer cells and delivers radiation to destroy them has just succeeded in a Phase 3 trial.

Two teammates back in our Blue Jays days. A lot of life since this picture. That’s me with Kevin Cash, now leading the Tampa Bay Rays and chasing a trip to the World Series. Baseball taught me a lot about trust. As a pitcher, you needed someone behind the plate who could challenge you, settle you down, and help you focus on the next pitch. I still carry that into leadership today. Be honest with people. Know when to listen. Have their back when things get tough. Give them the confidence to step up again. The role changes. Being a good teammate still matters. Pretty cool to look back and see where the game took us. Pulling for you, Kevin. #Baseball #Leadership #BlueJays #Rays #MLB

Billionaire cancer doctor Patrick Soon-Shiong told Tucker Carlson that almost every oncologist ignores the one number in your blood test that kills cancer: “Pick up the phone, call any random oncologist, not to shame them, and say, ‘You do a CBC, correct?’ A complete blood count. You take blood and check whether you’re anemic or not.” “And you give chemotherapy and radiation, and you ask, ‘What do you look for?’ Well, we look to see if you’re anemic, so we can give you this drug Amgen makes called Epogen. We look to see whether your platelets have gone down, so we can give you a platelet transfusion. We look to see whether your neutrophils have gone down so you don’t get an infection, so we give you Neupogen.” “Well, the problem is, do red blood cells kill cancer? No. Do platelets kill cancer? No. Do neutrophils kill cancer? No.” “What kills cancer? The natural killer cells and T cells. So in that CBC, there’s a thing called the lymphocytes. Do you look at that? No.” “The only cell that is important, that kills cancer, and 99.9% of oncologists will say, ‘We don’t pay any attention to that.’” Even Tucker couldn’t believe it: “Why, if you’re fighting cancer, would you ignore the one cell that fights cancer?” “That’s the missing link. That is the key element in your body.” PS. We post daily breakdowns on health and longevity, so if that’s you, follow us @LxngevityLab for more. Like and repost if you found value in this post:

Albert Belle argues steroid-era players belong in the Hall of Fame, saying guys mostly used them for recovery and still had to execute Albert Belle: "I could've gotten it, but at the time, I weighed 225. I didn't think I could perform at a high level weighing 250 or 260. I didn't want to put on that much weight because I didn't know the side effects. I was already putting up 40 HRs and 120 RBIs, so I was happy with that." Albert Belle: "Most of the guys doing it, it was for recovery. It is such a beating on the body playing game after game. At some points, you had to play 28 straight games before you had an off day, so guys just wanted to recover faster." Albert Belle: "No matter if you were throwing 90, 95, or 100, you still got to execute. If you're bigger, you still got to hit the ball." Albert Belle: "I think those guys should be in the Hall of Fame. If people had a problem with it, they should've brought it up a lot sooner instead of waiting until it gets to a congressional hearing."
