The AFL is considering an assistance package for Essendon which has 30 wins and a draw in the past four seasons. Over the same period Richmond has 20 wins and a draw. Why one not the other? Or more the point, why have assistance packages at all?

So the book is closed on Hocking, Drummond, AFL & Geelong. Nothing to see here. Misstep says Hocking. Ohhhh ok Stevey we’ll sort it and send it to a KC who’ll stretch it out long enough for everyone to forget about it. Journos will be too gutless to investigate further so it’s all yesterday’s news. In the meantime we will manipulate our moral standards and put Swans under microscope to take the focus away from us.

AFL imposing a penalty for an issue their chairman knew about purely to appease the mob, who aren't at all appeased by the penalty being entirely financial. Chef's kiss

It's been nearly three weeks and a dozen outrages since the Geelong concussion waiver story, but it's about so much more than an administrative oversight

An excruciatingly poor leader but a rippingly good bloke…….The world is full of them. Completely and utterly paddling which I’ve said since inception. So disappointed in his performance. I’ve always known he was not a strong leader and a somewhat anti-confrontational person which doesn’t augur well for assessment and appointment as a head of AFL or any “public” organisation to be frank. Put simply he is well out of his depth and struggling, evidenced by him averting press conferences and obvious lack of confidence when he does attend them.

I often refer to the poor leadership at the AFL. Steve Hocking advanced his career at AFL - along with destroying it with rule changes - came back to clubland and incorporated the poor leadership standards and principles with this “misstep”. Craig Drummond was president at Geelong during the time this “misstep” occurred and is now leading AFL as Commission Chairman.

Ex-AFLPA president Joel Bowden has come out swinging, slamming the players' association for being "too close" to the league and telling the ABC that Geelong must face an independent tribunal over the contract saga.

"I'm as confused after reading it as I have been for much of the day"
"What did the AFL know along the way?"
"I feel none the wiser. And I think the AFL and Geelong have long list of questions to answer."
"Of course there should be (a press conference)."
"That statement answers none of the pertinent questions of the day."

No sanctions from AFL to GFC is mind boggling. GFC hid the agreement from AFL and AFLPA knowing it would have been vetoed. If not illegal on OHS levels morally deplorable.

Thrilled to see AFL fining Blues $75K for being derelict in their duties. Now look in the mirror and you should fine yourselves $750M for complete and utter incompetence and duplicitous behaviour.

Original stand rule was bad. Coaches find ways to counter it. AFL add layers to stand rule to counter coaches. Here we are. Players and umpires confused. Ridiculous 50's sucking life out of games.
