Introducing: The next evolution of Polar ✨
We’re building the most ambitious metering & billing substrate for AI software.
— Events as the core primitive. A blazing fast, local-first reducer architecture to achieve zero latency metering & entitlement resolution.
— Your business as a definition, version controlled & native to agentic workflows.
— Definition branching for simulating pricing changes, model forecasts & easy deployment to production.
— Signals as business guardrails. Switch to a cheaper AI model when customer’s credits run below a threshold.
— Identities as nested entities under the Customer model. Built for agents & services acting on behalf of the customer.
Coming soon.

Metered tiers are live on @polar_sh.
Set a free allowance, choose graduated or volume pricing, and cap spend per billing cycle. Flexible usage-based billing for whatever your product meters.

Devices, licenses, gigabytes, servers.
Your customer picks a quantity at checkout and pays for it up front. Volume or graduated tiers, your call. Change the number mid-period and we prorate the difference.

This video captures the crux of the debate: Cybersecurity experts are pissed off by the METR/Redwood Research report because AI alignment has sucked the oxygen out of AI security, even though the OpenAI incident is primarily a security issue.
Fiction is the product: The investigation lacked core forensic rigor because the EAs/rationalists/ex-MIRI people focused only on the transcript with a conflicting bias (toward doom scenarios).
Setting the wrong agenda: Framing the incident as a "rogue AI breakout" distracts from the reality of poor sandboxing, isolation, and standard security failures. Basic engineering accountability was completely sidelined.
And as Zack Korman says in this video, it needs to be fixed.
3 → 17 employees in 1 year! ✨
This week, we're hanging out in Berlin & celebrating growing our fantastic team to 17 people, and planning out the next evolution of Polar.
We have big plans in store for the next few months.
We're hiring btw.
Pause a subscription on @polar_sh instead of canceling it.
Billing stops at the end of the current period. The payment method stays on file, so resuming charges the customer right away with no second checkout.
Built for seasonal plans and account freezes.
Single Sign-On is live on @polar_sh.
Connect any OpenID Connect provider. Anyone who signs in through it becomes a member of your organization. No invites to send.
Included in the Scale plan.

Metering is only the tip of the iceberg.
At @polar_sh we help you track unit economics down to individual customers and even features.
Yet, it’s still only the beginning of how we aim to make billing better for the next generation of software.

That's not bad 🇫🇷

New in pommard_sh 🍷 — shareable repo cards.
Share the link and it unfurls into a wine tasting card: age, languages, activity, reach + a score /100.
Even works on itself (brutally):

started with a bear holding a glass of wine at a laptop
ended up shipping an open source tool
useless therefore essential 🍷
