I will thriiiive in China
Strong smells make me sick.
IT'S YOUR PERFUME.
I've seen this many times. A foreigner or in this case a black person goes to China or East Asia, and they are greeted with covered noses and mouths.
They think to themselves, I smell good, I applied perfume before leaving, why are they doing this? This must be racism.
Chinese and East Asians do not have body odor, ~95% of us carry a variant in the ABCC11 gene causing us to produce no smell after sweating.
You can't even find deodorants supermarkets in China, people just don't need it. So our sense of smell is not used to strong perfumes, and when you enter a confined space with your perfume, people literally find the smell stinging our noses.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
East Asians with the odor-reduced AA ABCC11 genotype still produce measurable amounts of the same axillary odorants โ significantly less, not none. Variant frequency also varies by population: 0.904 in Han Chinese, 0.733 in Okinawa, 0.732 in Vietnamese. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC54โฆ pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC35โฆ

Ghanaians we like to promote and entertain nonsense thatโs the problem.
It seems like people don't understand why TA works.
So I'll explain it here.
TA works for 2 reasons:
The first is because a lot of people use TA.
If a lot of people believe TA works, eventually, it will work.
The reasoning here is simple:
That's because if enough people believe it to be true, and enough people sell/buy on certain indicators, those indicators will as a by product, start to work.
The second reason stems from human psychology.
This is most important.
If a stock is making higher higher, this shows consumer confidence is growing.
The reason again is simple.
If people are willing to pay a certain amount for a single share, and that amount is increasing, then that means people believe the stock will continue to go up (shows consumer optimism).
Vice versa, if a stock is making lower lows, it shows consumer confidence is decreasing (due to reasons stated above).
Same thing with support/resistance lines.
Same thing with Elliot Wave Theory (which is just higher highs and high lows).
Same thing with Fibonacci Levels.
Check my $SIVE chart below as an example if you want. It all comes down to human psychology.
Now, if you're thinking: "OK Con, I get that, but why do you use Elliot Wave Theory, Fibonacci Levels, Support/Resistance lines (horizontal and diagonal), etc., what do those show?"
Well, because they are representations of higher highs, lower lows, and the resistance zones that work based on human psychology (fib levels are zones that people "naturally" find as good zones to get out at, due to human psychology), they all givd us indicatorsof suplort/resistance or times to buy and times to sell.
Like I just explained.
This is why it shows relative bottoms, relative tops, and relative moves.
And part of the reason why over the long term, it is harder to predict chart movements based on TA, but on the short term, it is easier.
This is why I use TA with my fundamental analysis.
And by the way, I'm not saying to only use one. I'm saying to use both.
Remember, financial analysis shows you what to buy, technical analysis shows you when to buy it...
One reason I respect Serenity is that he argues logically. (Remember not too long ago he made a post about TA?)
I have similar issues with TA
It is astrology when people claiming pattern matching is causal explanation.
TA is the idea that charts "may" reflect supply, demand, positioning, and crowd psychology
That idea exists in classic TA frameworks: Murphy, Dow Theory, Wyckoff, Edwards & Magee. They all treat price action as a way to observe market behavior
Behavioral finance also supports the broader idea that markets are not perfectly rational. Kahneman & Tversky showed people behave differently under gains and losses.
Barberis, Shleifer & Vishny model how investor sentiment can create underreaction and overreaction
But this is where the leap happens
Behavioral finance does not prove that a Fibonacci level, a lower low, or a support line reveals the actual psychological mechanism behind a move
At best, TA observes a price pattern!!!
It does not prove why that pattern happened.
Especially with $SIVE, saying "I called the move from 73 to 49" skips the actual event in the middle: dilution news (INSIDE TRADING MUCH???)
Unless the chart predicted the timing, size, price, and terms of the dilution, this is not clean TA validation
It is correlation being dressed up as causation
Even Lo, Mamaysky & Wang, one of the more serious academic attempts to test chart patterns, begin from the problem that traditional chart reading is highly subjective and often "in the eyes of the beholder"
So yes, psychology matters in markets
But "psychology matters" does not mean every line drawn on a chart has causal meaning.
Read the literature yourself:
Technical Analysis:
Lo, Mamaysky & Wang โ Foundations of Technical Analysis
Behavioral Finance:
Kahneman & Tversky โ Prospect Theory
Barberis, Shleifer & Vishny โ A Model of Investor Sentiment
Data-snooping critique:
Sullivan, Timmermann & White โ Data-Snooping, Technical Trading Rule Performance, and the Bootstrap
One field studies chart patterns.
The other studies investor psychology.
They are not the same thing!!!
