Giving up smoking - how to do it without distressing yourself (it depletes your vitamin levels that are vtal for a strong immune system)
Replying to @harriepw
Here's how I did it:
Most cigarettes are "habit" (you have them at set times or stuations), ~10% are "addiction" (you need the nicotine).
Start by cutting out "habit" cigs, 1 or 2 each day, over about 3wks.
So, dont smoke at every tea break, or when you get to the lights etc.

Solar has overtaken nuclear. A decade ago it supplied 1% of the world's power. In 2025 it met three quarters of global demand growth.
Almost nobody saw it coming. I spoke to Jocelyn Timperley at BBC Future about why.

Electric cars are now up to nine times cheaper than petrol or diesel ones to drive in Britain, a Carbon Brief analysis calculates. If charged with off-peak power they cost 2.3p a mile, compared to 20.1p for petrol and 21p for diesel.

Look, this isn't rocket science.
Make a Law saying "Every Electric vehicle must use the same charger connection (not via adapter), & be capable of sending power either way; every charging unit must be bi-directional; paid chargers must also refund cards"

Don still doesn't realise just how much of his feed & comments were supplied by Russian #troll & #bot accounts now silenced by Ukrainian data centre attacks...
Personally, I welcome the scarcity of abusive attacks & whataboutery!
It would be nice to think Labour will decouple gas from electricity generation price - its crazy that even if a tiny amount of gas power generation is needed, *all* electricity is priced at the gas cost, specially when NESO has *paid renewables to switch off* due to grid weakness
UK to decouple #gas and #power prices .
Under the current system, gas sets the wholesale electricity price whenever it is needed alongside #wind, #solar, and many #renewables generators are paid gas-linked prices.

When I lived in Africa for 5yrs, power went on & off all the time, often for days at a time.
I froze 10 x 2litre bottles of water constantly, & if the power went off for more than a few hours, put a couple of bottles at a time into the fridge until they melted, then swapped them.

Lidl wouldn't invest there if there wasn't plenty of local demand - & it will be a big disappointment for developers who would have built & fitted out the store, suppliers who would have filled it, & the local people who would have worked there, as well as customers.
When I was growing up, *nobody* spat in the street - something I find totally unacceptable, unnecessary & disgusting - & that was due to a post WW1 edict issuing a fine for it, to restrict transmission of Tuberculosis (now rising again...)
Every lampost had a fine notice affixed.
The article is a bit "bla-bla-bla", but what it boils down to is "yes".
If you have fines for unacceptable behaviour, people do take notice. Those complaining about the behaviour are empowered, & can phone British Transport Police (who will sort it out)

UK crime was four times higher when Oasis first played Knebworth than at last year’s reunion gigs.
The collapse of crime and safer streets is one of the biggest stories of our time.
But one almost never told - or believed.
My take on today’s figures: comment.press/lawless

The collapse in violent crime over three decades has been one of the most striking developments of my lifetime.
News is about what’s going wrong, and rightly so. But the bigger picture also matters

It’s now officially confirmed.
Tonight, russia struck Kyiv’s historic centre with an Iskander ballistic missile carrying a cluster warhead.
58 submunitions explode in mid-air, designed to inflict maximum casualties across a 400 × 400 metre area.
“This strike had no military purpose. The goal was to destroy part of the old city and injure as many people as possible,” said a Ukrainian presidential adviser.
No military objective. Just terror.

Bucha. It was a genocide, recognized by everyone. They buried hundreds of people. They tortured people. We found the grave. There were, I believe, around 500 people. When we liberated those towns near Kyiv, there emerged this, you know, this kind of hatred for the Russians, right at that moment. Not even at the moment when they started the full-scale war. Back then nobody understood what it really was yet. People understood what this war was and what Putin did personally when we found those mass graves of tortured adults, children. I mean they didn't just kill them, they tortured and killed them.
When we liberated Bucha, I said, bring every journalist here. Don't touch anything, just bring the journalists. The whole world simply has to see this. Imagine finding a mass grave in the U.S. or in Britain, God forbid, with 500 tortured people, adults, kids, dogs, animals shot dead. I mean, they held hunting sprees there from military vehicles. People were running, they were shooting, just hunting, playing games. They literally just played with people, like slavery. So how, after this, can you listen to Putin? And how, after this, can you forgive?

True story:
I had nightmares (age ~6) about a tiger under my bed. I was utterly terrified, screaming. My parents ignored me, maybe a cursory glance under it.
One night, after ~1yr of this, I screwed up my courage, turned on the light & looked.
Large tabby cat from 3 doors down😒
