ATA just handed out an industry image award while celebrating nearly FIVE MILLION recruiting leads aka"your infirmation" and 56,000 driver hires. Nothing against their accomplishments as a orginization as thats their job...but......
Congratulations! Now for the metric trucking seems allergic to discussing: HOW MANY DRIVERS STAYED?
Recruiting fills seats. Retention builds companies and until we start measuring both, we're celebrating how fast we fill a bucket without asking why it keeps leaking....this is the stuff we need to really fix @TRUCKINGdotORG
Why are we not celebrating the carrier with the highest retention rate?

Meanwhile, his airline charges extra for certain aisle and window seats. Maybe economic fairness could start somewhere between FIRST CLASS and the middle seat.

ATRI's 2026 report ranks the “driver shortage” as carriers' #3 concern, retention #6, and driver compensation a distant #9.
So finding another driver matters more than keeping the one you've got, and paying them better is barely worth mentioning? That's not a driver shortage, that's a business model with a revolving door once again....
And for those in the cheap seats, notice what didn't make EITHER top ten? HOME TIME!
Imagine discussing retention while overlooking the time drivers get with their families. Brilliant.
Truckers, stop letting industry executives diagnose problems they refuse to recognize their role in creating. Demand better pay, paid time, real home time, and accountability.
Because trucking doesn't have a driver shortage.
Maybe it has a shortage of carriers worth driving for....some problems you cant recruit your way out of, and based on the carriers side of the list...their ignoring the real answer to the problem...

Well, well, well... Women In Trucking celebrating autonomous trucking. That's a hell of a plot twist.
An organization supposedly advocating for people behind the wheel is now applauding technology designed to REMOVE them.
Truckers, start paying attention to where your carriers send their sponsorship dollars and membership dues.
Are they funding organizations fighting FOR your future or helping market your replacement?
I'm all for innovation, but calling yourself a champion of professional drivers and women in trucking while promoting driverless trucks is some Olympic-level hypocrisy.
Follow the money...
Question the loyalty...
Scrutinize the motive....
Apparently everyone's welcome in the future of trucking... except the trucker.

When does the transition to electric Class 8 trucks stop being an environmental conversation and start being a purely financial one? Matt McLelland discusses how the Tesla Semi is finally making electric trucks a viable business investment.
Knowing that diesel prices are pushing past $6.38 a gallon is critical, but the real game-changer is that the Tesla Semi is reaching cost parity with traditional diesel.

If you had to put your family in a truck with a newly licensed driver, would you pick someone with standard CDL training or someone with 120 extra hours of simulator training in crash avoidance and hazardous conditions?
Enrique Allen Mar discusses why simulation provides critical hazard-response experience that real-world driving alone cannot safely replicate.
In fact, real-world fleet data shows that drivers who underwent just one hour of simulator-based winter driving instruction were 52% less likely to be involved in an incident compared to those who didn't.

How do you teach a new generation of CDL drivers to shift a manual transmission when most training schools only run automatics? The truth is, legit fleets don’t risk destroying real transmissions and burning fuel on beginner mistakes—they use simulators with an 18 to 24-month ROI.
They know that with the flip of a switch, a simulator can alternate between manual and automatic modes, letting recruits feel how the machine operates while saving thousands on tires, wear and tear, and instructor costs.

Who should actually be the first to buy an electric Class 8 truck like the Tesla Semi? On this episode of Brake Check, Matt McLelland outlines the ideal purchase cycle and duty profile for carriers considering electrification.
The sweet spot isn't long-haul cross-country runs; it's high-frequency shuttle work, drayage, and local distribution loops under 200 to 270 miles.

Charles Gracey critiques the misconception that driving simulators are only useful for novice CDL students. Enrique Allen Mar explains how virtual training benefits seasoned veterans who need to adapt to major industry shifts like electric Class 8 trucks or unfamiliar regional geography.
Building muscle memory and providing first-hand experience in a risk-free environment matters far more than just analyzing data points on a screen.

Why does Covenant Logistics trade out their trucks every two years? On Brake Check, Matt McLelland discusses Covenant's strategy of replacing equipment after just 400,000 miles.
It's a massive value proposition for drivers: you never have to deal with a dirty, aging rig. You get the newest creature comforts and the latest EPA-compliant engine technology, while the fleet optimizes its trade cycle to maximize the truck's resale value on the secondary market.

You can't take an 80,000-pound rig out onto a public highway and intentionally hit black ice or hydroplane 50 times just to teach a new driver how to react. Enrique Allen Mar discusses why commercial simulators are essential for mastering high-risk emergency maneuvers.
By using full-motion, hyper-realistic simulators like the ATS FleetMaster at TCAT Jackson, drivers can repeat dangerous weather scenarios over and over until proper crash-avoidance reactions become pure muscle memory—all without putting lives at risk.
