I fell in love with programming.
But it was never the point.
The point was always making the thing in my head real.
A ramble about AI, game development, shitty zebras, and the 11-year-old version of me.
In my new Roblox game I've added a "God Mode" that lets me fly around as a pair of shades in the world
It’s awesome - this is the type of fun project that passionate people can just pursue with AI tools now
The card recognition model behind RiftSight is now open source as riftsight-vision!
It includes two small models that find and name cards in videos/streams, labels + a labeling tool, a browser runtime, and a guide so you can create your own model and extension for your card game.

Execution still matters more than ever. BUT, execution won't help when the audience for your game has already tried 20+ shitty version of your vision.
One thing AI is enabling to do is build more quality, faster. We can build so much bigger than we could before.
Think bigger?
You’re standing on a planet with molten lava at its core. Trees are turning sunlight into air you can breathe. Your heart is beating without you asking it to. There’s a moon in the sky and bugs that glow. This whole thing is absurdly beautiful.
There's a beautiful song by @rexorangecounty that I've found a couple of times so far in my life,: "It's not the same anymore".
The journey that he describes always sticks with me.
To me, it's a story about feeling stuck, lost. Then accepting that and figuring out what's next, before embracing what's found on the other side.
"I'm doing this for myself, it's up to me no-one else. It's not the same anymore, it's better".
I can't thank Rex Orange enough for finding the way to articulate all of the mental chaos and feelings in the way that he did - every time this song finds me it's like I have some deep realisation, this feeling of clarity.
It is up to me. Nobody else.
I can't live my life in the hope of making somebody else happy - I have to learn to live for myself, learn my values, what I want and who I want to be. Then I can figure out the rest.
Replying to @thomasbrushdev
@thomasbrushdev’s journey has been a complete inspiration to watch - and after finally playing through his latest game, Twisted Tower, I have fallen back in love with single player games.
A fantastic triumph, and I’m so appreciative that he shared so much of the development process.
I’ve also got so much respect for how open he has been about the personal battles along the way. There’s a lot of confidence in being willing to share that side of the journey too. Fantastic human.
This game hooked me in a way that made me really start appreciating every small detail in the universe he’s created and it’s honestly inspiring as hell.
I’m finding myself creatively adding more care to each piece of what I build because of his attention to detail.
Thanks Thomas,

One of my favourite videos of his is here, a great interview with @AdventureMtn!

Life is going so fast because you're not injecting enough silence into your days. Spend an hour reading or writing or walking in silence and watch how your day seems to double in duration
A mindset that I think comes hand in hand with AI is “we can do things so much faster now! Let’s rush to build fast!”
I’ve been guilty of it. Still am.
What happens when we slow back down though and really just take the time to use these tools and build something huge?

Write more. Write to think. Write until you're no longer confused. Write about the problems you already solved. Write for the person you were 2 years ago. Write so you never lose what took you years to figure out. A simple writing habit can change absolutely everything.
How many of us learned to code because we loved code?
How many of us learned because there was something on the other side we desperately wanted to build.
Does the rush come from pressing the right keys on the keyboard, or from seeing the computer do what you intended?
