Autonomy I am learning the shape of my own edges— not the ones you traced with your careful hands, the ones that grow when no one is watching. There is a room inside me that does not open for anyone anymore.

Not out of spite, because some doors were never meant to be thresholds. Some rooms are just rooms. You asked me once why I keep my hands folded so tightly.

I did not tell you that I was holding myself together like a letter that has been opened too many times. Now I walk alone through the parts of me that still feel like mine. The garden is overgrown. The light comes in sideways. Nothing blooms on command.

And there is relief in that— in the slow recognition that I do not have to be a place for you to live. I am my own unmapped geography, with untranslatable names for all I have survived. Sometimes I pass a darkened window and mistake my own shadow for a stranger.

Then I remember: this is what freedom feels like when it has cost you everything you loved. Not a triumph. Not a wound closing. Just the ordinary courage of waking up and choosing yourself, again and again, until the choosing becomes a kind of home.
