Over the summer of 2026, we researched twelve data centers in Southwestern PA. If they're all built, they could add enough gas-fired power to equal about three-quarters of the electricity the entire state used in 2024.

A huge plume of smoke rose from Nippon/U.S. Steel’s Edgar Thomson Works in Braddock yesterday. We don’t know what happened, but does it look like an explosion? 👀
Ask yourself: Does Nippon/U.S. Steel deserve an air permit for a new hot strip mill?
A fresh coat of paint on Braddock’s Edgar Thomson plant won’t erase years of pollution.
And it doesn’t change what a proposed hot strip mill would bring: a projected 43% increase in PM2.5 in the heart of Braddock.
U.S. Steel is already polluting the region - a Hot Strip Mill will bring more of the same.
Braddock breathes some of the highest PM2.5 in our region - they don't deserve more.

Around 120 Braddock residents attended the Allegheny County Health Department public meeting on the proposed hot strip mill at Nippon/U.S. Steel’s Edgar Thomson Works last night.
Many asked thoughtful questions about what more pollution would mean for their neighborhood, including a projected 43% increase in PM2.5 in the heart of Braddock.
The biggest question in the room: how can we ask an overburdened community to take on even more pollution?
“There is no end user, there are no facts that are in writing and it’s apparent a majority of the residents are against it,” said State Rep. Andrew Kuzma, R-Elizabeth Township who is opposed to the project. triblive.com/local/valley-ne…
