Agreed. I almost never work on weekends and average ~40 hrs/week. Balance IS possible in academia!
Brett Jesmer retweeted
Would be nice if people stopped exaggerating the academic work schedule. The job can vary from tons of free time way under 40 hrs/wk to workaholic tendencies depending on personal choices around how many projects to balance. Some colleagues barely work. Some always work.

During my postdoc I went to a faculty training seminar. There we were told working weekends should be expected as faculty. I asked, but what if you have kids? The speaker responded, “I chose to be childless to dedicate my life to my research” . 🙄
No thanks.

Are ‘bold’ raccoons to blame for your overturned trash? Recent research by ESPM postdoc @Lauren_Stanton_ suggests docile animals are the best learners—and likely the true garbage raiding criminal masterminds. Read more in the @nytimes: nytimes.com/2022/09/22/scien…

Examining the evolutionary history of ungulate migration shows that this behaviour has evolved multiple times in response to grassland expansion and increased seasonality of resources.

indeed, origins of migration are coincident with the mid-Miocene cooling🥶and the subsequent rise of grasslands🌾. also, many now-extinct ungulates were probably migratory!
Brett Jesmer retweeted
why did migratory behavior👣 evolve in ungulates🦓🦌🦬? phylogenetic evidence suggests that the evolution of migration was driven by living at high latitudes🌏and consuming grass🌾, and evolving migration caused ungulates to evolve larger bodies📈 (1/2) nature.com/articles/s41559-0…
