OPINION: "There’s definitely something wicked in our political discourse when many Christians clap for hateful, inaccurate political attacks on a pastor’s faith."

This week, city council meetings in Washington & Iowa opened with "Hail Satan" invocations from The Satanic Temple. Why did these prayers occur? Because Christian Nationalist council members decided to inject prayer into gov't meetings. That backfired!

Court documents show DHS sent undercover agents into churches to monitor anti-ICE activists.
One of those churches was already covered by a federal court order restricting certain DHS enforcement activity on its property.
Last night, @BrianKaylor joined us to explain what he uncovered: agents secretly recording meetings, collecting license plate information, monitoring people who were not investigation targets, and the larger questions this raises about religious liberty and government surveillance.
If the government can send undercover agents into churches, where should the line be?

During Biden admin, Sen. @HawleyMO pushed AG Garland on if they were "cultivating sources & spies" in Catholic churches. But now that Trump admin is spying on mainline Protestant churches, Hawley is silent & refuses to comment: publicwitness.wordandway.org…
Some updates on DHS spying on churches: defendants in Cities Church protest case cite the 'church invasions by ICE' in motion for dismissal & faith groups protected by injunction dispute DHS arguments while urging federal judge to force DHS changes: publicwitness.wordandway.org…
After spying on churches, DHS is now claiming it didn't violate a federal injunction: publicwitness.wordandway.org…

But, Mr. "Secretary of War," sometimes God instead responds like in Isaiah 1:15 - "When you spread out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I will not listen; your hands are full of blood."
My report on the latest worship service at the Pentagon, where in addition to blowing up people in boats they have apparently also killed irony:

Hegseth defends sectarian curriculum on military bases by arguing "In God We Trust." But he took oath to defend Constitution, which prohibits religious establishment. Of course, this isn't surprising since he's been establishing his religion at Pentagon: publicwitness.wordandway.org…
Hegseth invoking "In God We Trust" to justify establishing his religion once again shows that's not an innocent or "civil religious" phrase. As Beau Underwood & I documented in 'Baptizing America,' it's been #ChristianNationalist phrase from the beginning: bookshop.org/a/110819/978082…
Christian Nationalists like Indiana Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith want to reestablish religious tests for office. But our founders got it right with the Constitution's Article VI:

AP calls win for "no" on Missouri Amendment 4, which was effort by GOP lawmakers to stop citizen-led constitutional amendments.
This anti-democratic measure was also supported by Christian Nationalist church as "biblical" vote: publicwitness.wordandway.org…
Nice to see the big loss!
I voted against Missouri Amendment 4 today as it'd virtually strip away citizen power to amend MO constitution. It's power grab effort by GOP lawmakers. So it's really telling when a #ChristianNationalist church used Sunday worship to push this amendment:
