When @Malala and @ZiauddinY started Malala Fund, one of their dreams was to build the first secondary school for girls in the village where Malala’s mother grew up. In 2018, Shangla Girls School opened with 183 students in the mountains of northern Pakistan. With support from our partner @BridgeConnectNG, Kano state recently adopted the gender-responsive education budgeting (GREB) framework to help education planning and budgets work better for girls. But now it's time for implementation — and that starts by listening to girls. At a recent town hall, girls shared what they want to see in their schools: less crowded classrooms, better WASH facilities, more female teachers and greater support for girls in STEM. Come along with girls' education advocate @AmeenaManzo as she heads to a town hall in Kano state, where girls are speaking directly to leaders about what they want to see in their schools. Amina's own journey to advocacy began in secondary school, when she helped a fellow student secure a scholarship so she could stay in school. Seeing that change happen inspired her to keep speaking up for girls.
