Comparing latest quarterly results from #Microsoft #Xbox and #Sony #PlayStation. Both over the same period to Sep 30 2026. Xbox Q1 Total gaming revenue -2% ❌ Content/services -2% ❌ Hardware revenue -14% ❌ PlayStation Q2 Total gaming revenue +9% ✅ Network Services +20% ✅ Hardware revenue -5% ❌ While PlayStation's growth outside of hardware is still strong, Xbox's continues to decline and falter. Both should see bumps next quarter thanks to GTA 6. PlayStation's revenue for the quarter was $7.59bn IAS 21 currency average adjusted, while Xbox's was $5.38bn. So PS's is 41% higher. It's still wild PlayStation enjoys such a revenue advantage given Xbox acquired both ABK and Zenimax, totalling $83.5bn in costs alone. Typically late into a gen declines are normal, which somehow PlayStation is avoiding in overall revenue due to especially strong Network Services and Game Software sales. While PS5 unit sales are down 35% due to a combination of high price increases and typical late gen decline, one impact of price increases is comparatively lower hardware revenue decline, -5% for PS and -14% for Xbox (Xbox reports YoY hardware revenue changes, not units). Xbox made an estimated $330m in hardware revenue, while PlayStation made $1.38bn, and sold over 5x more units. Where things get sticky is that Xbox has seen 11 quarters or nearly 3 years of hardware decline in a row, so things are dire for Xbox as a console, more than perhaps the data even reveals at first glance. That Xbox's overall revenue and even content and services revenue is declining the way it has been, after ABK, PC day and date, releases like Forza Horizon 6, Black Ops Ports, Halo Campaign Evolved, Minecraft Dungeons II etc, a bigger multiplatform push and Game Pass price increases (even after the recent price drop), is also disconcerting. --- P.S. some have questioned how specific revenue is reported despite Xbox not revealing exact figures in their annual reports. It's calculated based on % changes from when they did announce revenue figures. coupled with further clarification from more recent public figures (ABK recenue, FTC data etc).

There is no actual context to comapre to those in reality as only Wolverine is on one platform, so 🤷‍♂️

Wolverine has reportedly sold only 2.4 million units so far. For context: Spider-Man PS4 sold 9 million copies within the first 90 days. Wolverine reportedly cost more than three times the budget of Spider-Man. Very major loss for Sony.
