These tapestry fragments excavated in the 1970s at Attar Caves in Iraq are a great reminder that 'Coptic textiles' in Egypt are just the tip of the iceberg of what once existed all over the Roman Empire and its periphery. [Photos from iraq.emb-japan.go.jp/files/0…]

Delighted to open "Voices from the Wall. Dacians on Hadrian's Wall" today at Carlisle Cathedral and talk about the millenary bridge build by our ancestors, so reinforced now. Congrats to @BronwenRiley for this remarkable project, along with @RCILondon and all the team involved!
I think we must visit different archives!

A #Roman glass dish, with a chequerboard design in red, blue, & white. It was probably made in Egypt around 2000 years ago, but was likely found in northern Italy #Archaeology #AncientGlass

They found rare 10th century glass cups but is there any sign of all that Myrrhine ware Pliny the elder says he stashed there? The Barber cup pictured here @britishmuseum is one of only two Myrrhine or fluorspar vessels known to survive intact from antiquity.
