Progress in a community is about uplifting that community. How are we giving young people…quality opportunities in the community that they love?”

ALT Communities help shape who we become and deserve our attention, care, and investment. We invite your students and you to consider the communities in which you reside or frequent and reflect: What do you love about your community? How has your community shaped you? What do you want people to know about your community? How do you want to contribute to the betterment of your community? As an extension, consider planning a unit that explores the meaning, history, and impact of gentrification in your area and ways to advocate for equitable opportunities and policies that do not displace people. Let’s continue this reflection during #BreakingBreadWithLiberatED ft. Dr. Meisha Porter, president & CEO of the Bronx Community Foundation & the first Black woman who served as chancellor of NYC’s Department of Education. Join us on Dr. @DenaSimmons’ IG Live on Tuesday, March 12th at 7PM EST for their conversation about how we can uplift and pour back into the communities that raised us.
