A personal one 💌 See this envelope? 🌏 It's a congratulations card that my wife packed in my suitcase before I headed off to Australia 8 days ago with the instruction not to open it until 15th June. Nicola knew there would be cause to celebrate yesterday and she knew we'd be 17,000km apart. She's amazing with small touches of support like that. 🥰 But by far her biggest show of support was the day she left a successful 14-year career in law to join the sector that I'm passionate about - education. 💪🏽 Since 2018, she's dedicated herself to learning about all things education, all things maths learning and all things about running a business. On top of her commitment to Maths Circle LTD, she's become governor of a local school and also Chair of Trustees for Bedford Education Association, an edu causes charity in Bedford. 🏋🏽‍♀️ She's immeasurably lifted the impact of Maths Circle over 6 years - there's no sense in counting all the ways - using talent that only she has, an abundance of warmth and a tenacity like no other. 🙏🏽 Nicola, thank you for the little things, the big things and all the things in between. Most of all for joining me on this journey. You'll never know how much it means to me. 🎖️ It's with the greatest humility that I received an OBE for services to education yesterday and, starting with Nicola's card, I've received a lifetime's worth of congratulations in 24 hours, for which I'm very grateful. But, you see, it's an honour that Nicola very richly deserves for *her* services to education. 🦸🏽‍♀️🦸🏽‍♂️ Now then, there is a team at @MathsCircleLtd who should be front and centre for recognition too. You are part of this. You give it all. You're crusaders and changemakers. ⏳ Speaking of which, the job isn't done. To get every child leaving school saying "I'm good at maths" is going to take a while longer yet. But we're making a difference together and that's more valuable to me than anything. --- 📽️ To see @NReddyMathsCirc in action, watch the video link in the comments. 👑 To nominate someone for an honour, there's a separate link also in the comments.

A blog written with TTRS about a big multiplicative idea, and the various ways that it can be explored in KS2: ttrockstars.com/open-mic-exp… These tasks have given me some magical teaching moments. Let me know what you think, especially if you try out one of the tasks!

🌏 16 students. 2 countries. 1 Rockathon Sydney 2026. On 18th March, something special happened in Sydney. Together with our brilliant partners and sponsor @wearewonde, we brought together 16 of the region's most talented students: 8 from Australia and 8 from New Zealand – all top performers on the TTRS leaderboards. 🧩 We built five different complex puzzles and quizzes specially for this event. Each one was designed to challenge the children to put their times tables recall to the test in ways they'd never experienced before. 🤝 Working as teams, they solved each problem. Most importantly, they discovered that once you have mastered fundamental times tables skills, entire worlds of mathematics open up. We were honoured to welcome @EricaStanfordMP, New Zealand's Minister of Education (@EducationGovtNZ) and @InfinityPlusOne (Subash Chander), New Zealander of the Year and popular maths educator. A big thank you to them for bringing the excitement and celebration to the day! Lastly, a HUGE thank you to Wonde and the event's hosts @latrobe - without them, this event would not have been possible! TT Rock Stars has helped millions of children all over the world improve their recall and fluency. Try it for free on a four week trial now: play.ttrockstars.com/registe… @BrunoReddyMaths

Super-excited to be running an online training session for all those schools with a normal TTRS subscription, going deep into helping children answer multiplicative word questions.

Why maths fluency matters and why it’s often misunderstood In early mathematics, many students can eventually get the answer. But accuracy alone can hide slow, effortful thinking that makes it harder to keep up, undermines confidence, and widens learning gaps over time. 🚨NEW EPISODE🚨 If reading comprehension still feels harder than it should, this episode is for you. In the latest Knowledge for Teachers episode, I’m joined by @natwexler, author of The Knowledge Gap & Beyond the Science of Reading. We unpack why comprehension is not a skill you can drill, why background knowledge does the heavy lifting & how writing helps students think more clearly. We also dig into the famous baseball study & what it really means for classroom practice. Less slogans. More substance. Practical ideas grounded in evidence. 🎧 Listen now via your favourite podcast app learnwithlee.net/s03e19-nata…

All of the I See Reasoning eBooks use the same/similar titles, so children get used to the reasoning approaches. One of my favourites is 'How Many Ways?' which feature in the new Y1 and Y2 books:

THE ESSENTIAL GUIDE TO EXPLICIT INSTRUCTION IN MATHEMATICS When I moved into primary teaching, I thought the problem was engagement. I believed if I made maths fun enough, students would learn. Turns out, they didn’t need more glitter, they needed clarity. This new guide explains the exact approach that changed how I teach maths. Show. Support. Step Back. This is the guide that I wish I had when I first started teaching maths👇

🧮 Loved working with staff last week on developing their understanding of a strategy-based, mastery approach to teaching times tables. So many lightbulb moments 💡✨ Top teacher takeaways: 🔹 Teach small groups of connected facts, instead of long lists 🔹 Use manipulatives to make the connections visible 🔹 Use known landmark facts to unlock unknown ones 🔹 Celebrate small frequent steps of success #PrimaryMaths #TimesTables #MathsMastery #NumberSense #TeacherCPD #MathsConfidence

When we teach times tables, are we teaching just recall - or the strategies too? Take 3 × 9 Pupils could: • Skip count • Double + one more group • Do ×10 then subtract a group Do they need a range of strategies so they can choose the right one?
