For decades, French governments have tried to buy peace with spending concessions or by abandoning reforms. Now public debt is 119% of GDP, the deficit is 5.4%, and a massive fiscal adjustment is needed. What does this tell you about France’s ability to reform?

Re reading Hayek is one of the best uses of time. The only better use is reading him for the first time (if you haven’t).

“a higher degree of entrepreneurship unambiguously increases output, the capital stock, and real wages… In this context, policy reforms that promote entrepreneurship would foster innovation, productivity, and higher real wages.”

Six Nobel Prize-winning economists, and @gabriel_zucman, have endorsed California's proposed billionaire tax. But what do economists who actually specialize in taxation think?
I surveyed them to find out. Turns out they don't support it. 🧵

The BEA’s annual revisions shaved a few tenths off the rate of inflation.

“The good news is we have a thick literature on the topic at this point.”
The thick literature:
The idea that "popular narrative" on minimum wages "turns out to be wrong" because it's not paid attention to "replication" is just wrong.
There are tons of replications in minimum wage research. And not just replication, but new research that extends the analysis. Just because a one team wants to critique a paper doesn't make it a "replication failure."
The good news is we have a thick literature on the topic at this point.
And that body of research strongly shows that to date, minimum wages have raised wages without causing much change in employment.

Yesterday, we issued a statement opposing new proposals to ban or restrict U.S. diesel exports.
“Proposals to ban or restrict U.S. diesel exports are counterproductive. Export bans would not lower energy costs, especially beyond the immediate term, and would instead raise prices, weaken energy security, discourage investment, and undermine America’s reliability as an energy supplier..."
