I’m not sure enough people have seen this - this is what city council in Memphis looks like as the activists fight data centers

Absolutely incredible…
"Wedgewood Polls" just admitted they are a fake polling firm and made up their polls.
Their fake polls have been posted in both the NYT and Nate Silver’s averages.

I love The Bulwark because it's not just a website or a blog or a podcast, it's a whole COMMUNITY of likeminded, intelligent, reasonable people who are experiencing an acute mental breakdown.
#MaineSenate
The Bulwark says “Fuck Joe Manchin” for campaigning with Susan Collins.

Do both! Protect water/power concerns and get local cities paid. Not binary
Great example of a local elected official making smart calls on data center investment -- ensuring local communities benefit from the buildout while welcoming and encouraging development:
"Memphis no longer has to imagine what those benefits might look like. The city has already earmarked roughly $3.3 million in xAI property-tax revenue for neighborhoods near its Memphis facilities, including home repairs, public safety and other improvements.
The numbers could soon get much bigger. The Shelby County assessor projects that xAI could pay nearly $28 million a year in county property taxes as its second Memphis campus comes onto the tax rolls."

Councilman Philip Spinosa Jr. says: “On AI, Memphis does not have to choose between protecting residents and welcoming investment. We can write tougher rules.”

Dear @semaforben,
I read in the Semafor Media newsletter that you are pleased but not surprised with where Semafor has landed after four years. What has surprised (or disappointed!) you about Semafor during this same time?
There’s some context missing from the East Potomac debate online.
I can see why a public, championship level golf course is exciting directly next to downtown DC right there on a prime piece of real estate. (I don’t have a ton of faith in Tom Fazio taking on this task or in the ability for a municipal maintenance crew to take that on in perpetuity, but I digress.)
The whole grow/shrink thing is tiring, but I don’t think golf should grow in this direction.
There is no lack of championship golf in DC area (Congressional + Potomac + Woodmont + Baltimore + Caves Valley are all championship ready today). There is no lack of places to play for bros on golf trips, and there is no lack of up-and-coming clubs (think Old Barnwell). The game is rife with fashionistas, equipment junkies, and logomaxxers.
In general I’d say one thing that’s lacking generally is simple, good, affordable municipal golf. Not in a granola bar kind of way to do the contrived ‘grow the game’ thing, but rather having recreation for people of the city.
Anyone who went to East Potomac could see how busy the range was. There’d be 20-something dudes getting in some practice after work. There’d be kids. There’d often be dates. There’d be old people. One time I saw Dave Matthews Band drummer right next to me.
I think it would be sad for that to be lost. I hope whatever ends up in its place maintains that function for the people of DC.
Pretty cool to see a whole terminal stand up and clap for veterans coming off an Honor Flight before 8am at DCA

The Democrats aren't the only threat to Republican candidates. Our fundraising industry is putting us at a disadvantage.
Candidates in brutal races are competing with shady PACs and campaigns pumping out scammy texts that raise millions but net nothing.
The consultants and vendors profiting from this garbage are doing damage to the party and our ability to compete. Our leaders need to call it out.
Crazy that a former member of the House of Representatives and Director of OMB doesn’t understand how this works.
WinRed doesn’t send anything. The campaigns and organizations send the messages.
Dear @WinRed: I'll make you a deal. I'll commit to giving $5000 to various GOPers between now and the end of the month, but I am going to subtract $100 for each one of these crap texts/emails you send me.
I've hit "stop2end." I've "deleted and reported spam." And I've unsubscribed on every email.
Please, just leave me the alone.

subs are sneaky and you easily forget about them. Then go spend that money on ice cream for your kids.

On a day when a developer said he may need further city funds to rehab the city’s tallest building, the city’s CFO gave the City Council SpaceXAI’s five year city tax projections.
