⚙️CASTOR Horizon Functional Components: Attestation Source
The Attestation Source is a key Trusted Network Device Extension (TNDE) component designed to secure the CASTOR architecture from the ground up.
Operating on observed system traces, it executes a layered attestation approach, spanning from attesting to the secure deployment of the overarching CASTOR TNDE platform, up to node-level network functions and composite, efficient path-level verification.
By utilizing advanced cryptographic protocols, it also enables the sharing of trust guarantees efficiently and privately, ensuring sensitive system contexts remain hidden from arbitrary verifiers of neighbouring administrative domains.

⚙️CASTOR Horizon Functional Components: Trust Network Device Security Monitor (TN-DSM)
The TN-DSM serves as the core orchestration component within the in-router Trusted Network Device Extension (TNDE) platform.
It enables upper-layer controllers to attest the integrity of the TNDE platform and securely onboard network elements into the CASTOR forwarding plane.
By exposing dedicated TNDI-SP communication channels, the TN-DSM manages the secure collection and sharing of local trustworthiness claims and low-level traces for federated trust assessment and auditability purposes.

⚙️CASTOR Horizon Functional Components: Trust Awareness API
The Trust Awareness API establishes a transparent communication bridge between the CASTOR orchestration framework and authorized external Service Providers.
It exposes actionable events, including abstracted service assurance insights, path profile statuses, and real-time compliance indicators regarding active network services.
This structured visibility enables authorized third-party applications to adapt their critical operations based on near real-time trust insights.

⚙️CASTOR Horizon Functional Components: Network Controller
The main functionality of the Network Controller lies in the provisioning of tactical Segment Routing policies as a result of a change in critical network or trust characteristics of the network topology.
Triggered by the Traffic Engineering Policy Engine, it reacts to shifts in QoS or topology trust characteristics by dynamically adapting the forwarding plane on the fly.

⚙️CASTOR Horizon Functional Components: Traffic Engineering Policy Engine
The Risk Assessment Engine models and quantifies the operational risk posture across all observable network segments.
It evaluates threat vectors affecting router hardware, operating systems, and software stacks to construct a comprehensive network risk graph for complex attack scenarios that span across the asset topology.
Using this graph, it derives risk-aware Required Trust Levels (RTLs) that dictate the minimum trust thresholds required by both Local and Global TAF agents.
