Jen Conent from @ChiPubSchools is speaking at the board meeting about how ChiArts needs more money, more teachers, more artists. Even though arts funding throughout the district isn’t growing. Fair? Equitable? All schools need more funds.
Here at the @ChiPubSchools, the @CTULocal1 speaker is talking about how the turn-around at Dyett is a model for all schools. 7.2% of kids are proficient in reading and 14.3% proficient in math at Dyett. Really? That is a success story

Today, a majority of the Board chose political fiction over financial responsibility.
By adding state revenue that has not been appropriated, committed or guaranteed, CTU-aligned board members did not create a single new dollar for our classrooms. They simply wrote an imaginary number into a spreadsheet and called it a solution.
That is not progressive budgeting. It is fiscal malpractice.
CTU’s political leadership knows Springfield has not approved this money. They know CPS cannot spend campaign rhetoric. They also know exactly what happens when the promised money fails to arrive: drastic midyear cuts, disrupted classrooms, layoffs, emergency borrowing and further damage to the district’s credit.
Instead of confronting the district’s financial reality, CTU and its allies are trying to conceal it with invented revenue. The education of the children of the city of Chicago is not a game.
I will not participate in that deception. Our families deserve honesty, not fantasy accounting. Our employees deserve a budget capable of actually paying them. Our students deserve better than discovering halfway through the school year that the money they were promised never existed.
Those who voted for this amendment will own every cut, every downgrade and every disruption that follows.
“Orgs like EL Education, High Tech High & Big Picture Learning have built whole school models around a similar approach: rigorous academic learning embedded in real problems, w/real audiences & real stakes.” We have an EL school in Chicago! Polaris Charter nytimes.com/2026/06/22/opini…
In @ChiPubSchools board meeting after meeting, I listen to passionate @chiartshs parents, teachers & students ask the board to preserve their excellent & expensive conservatory model. And charter parents just asking the board to renew their schools and fund their fairly
At @ChiPubSchools board meeting, the @CTULocal1 board members have just voted to NOT have public comments (not hear from families) before they (hopefully) vote on charter renewal today. #politicsOVERstudents
I am at the @ChiPubSchools board meeting at 9:46 pm where the powerful Supt Dr. Macqueline King delivered this speech to defend her team at CPS and move forward with the charter renewal vote
The CTU-backed @ChiPubSchools Board Members are advocating to delay charter renewals until next month - after school is out! How are the @CTULocal1 teachers at the unionized schools feeling about that?
At the @ChiPubSchools board meeting, where the anti-charter board members are trying to pass a motion to delay the city’s charter school renewals UNTIL June. This means the school year will end without a new renewal. How can they do that to families?
Do the CTU charter teachers at @chousechicago and @ACEROSCHOOLS know that their CTU lobbyist Jen Conant is pushing for short renewals for their schools? I thought unions were supposed to push for job stability for members.
At @ChiPubSchools board meeting, in non-shocking comments, @CTULocal1 charter chair Jen Connent is blaming everyone but her CTU for the EPIC closure. CTU never advocated 4 fair funding 4 EPIC or any charter. CTU threatened a strike to get a contract the school could never afford
At @ChiPubSchools Board Meeting, just heard from Board Member Rivas and others that they did not know beforehand that the district was completely revamping the network management system, resulting in many staff having to reapply for their positions
At @ChiPubSchools Board Meeting, Dr King shared GoCPS is a 1-stop shop for parents choosing schools 4 their kids. She said the site features info on all types of schools: specialized, selective, etc.She didn’t name charters. Which aren’t easy to find on GoCPS. Coincidence?
Here at the @ChiPubSchools board meeting, the Japanese students from a Roseland school are amazing. #CPSBoard
Here @ChiPubSchools meeting @WilliePreston_ speaking passionately as a state senator & CPS parent. He’s asking this board not to take out an irresponsible high interest loan. He said that’ll make it harder for Springfield legislators to get more education $$ into the state budget
Scratch that! @ChiPubSchools board member @jennicuster cited Robert’s Rules of Order and the simple majority asking the budget discussion to be moved up on today’s agenda STANDS. Score one for transparency
From @ChiPubSchools meeting, the vote to move up the discussion about the FY26 budget went down. Rivas, Smith, Custer, Rosenfeld & 8 others voted 4 transparency & Thatokura, Lozano, Bautista & others voted against. How many people will be watching 5 hrs into this meeting?
Here @ChiPubSchools board meeting, speakers continue lamenting the closure of 50 schools in 2013 but just think of the budget deficit CPS would be facing if there were even more schools with 100 or less students.

“For years I have been highlighting how @ChiPubSchools and many other districts are siphoning money away from schools parents want their kids to attend to subsidize schools that parents don't want their kids to attend” Thanks, Jed! @CharterFolk charterfolk.org/whip-around-…
