We set ourselves a goal of helping 10,000 people by the end of FY22. It was an audacious goal at the time, but we are proud to report that we exceeded our targets for FY21. We have helped thousands of Australians and the stories we’ve collected speak for themselves.

"The long goodbye' In episode 1 of 'Conversations that Count', Suzy tells the story of caring for her dad, who had dementia. It's a moving story of the 'ordinary' and 'extraordinary' experiences of the last stage of life. shorturl.at/wqavS @Violet_org_au

Violet Chair @KateCarnellAus on her parents’ deaths and avoiding the 'if only' at the end of a loved one's life. We'll continue to advocate for Aussies to have the end of life experience they want, or deserve, by meeting government and industry leaders. hubs.la/Q01msZFV0

As always @drkathrynmannix has put gentle, wise words to the unspoken yet universal process of #OrdinaryDying This piece will #illuminate and #comfort so many. Thank you @drkathrynmannix for everything to do.
What can we learn from the death of the #Queen? The world has watched her live through the process of #OrdinaryDying, and yet dying went unspoken, un-named. Let's notice what nobody mentioned: we all saw the Queen going through the stages of ordinary dying. A 🧵... 1/

Families who insisted on intensive care at end of life acknowledge its futility, those doubted palliative care recall its worth. There is irony in the hope that the next time will be “better". Insightful piece by the wonderful @docranjana @Violet_org_au

Death rates remain stubbornly at 100%. How carefully is care for those in the process of dying being planned & delivered? Is there the same attention to providing proactive care at the end of our lives as at its beginning? Great read 👏by @drkathrynmannix shorturl.at/bmTW2

Yes & Yes. 30% of people in any public hospital are in the last 12 months of life. So many unwanted, unplanned, unnecessary admissions. Time for new models & #change to deliver better outcomes for #people & the #health system. @AnikaWells @Mark_Butler_MP @Violet_org_au
“We have squeezed every last drop we can out of this current model [of primary care] that was devised in the 1980s that is no longer fit for purpose as the population ages, and we’re needing to manage complex chronic disease.” ⁦@ACEMPresident⁩ smh.com.au/healthcare/absolu…

A really wonderful conversation to help #normalise #death #grief and #loss. Worth taking the time to share with the people in your world who need this help @Violet_org_au @drkathrynmannix
bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/b06nnq… Have just listened to this brilliant conversation @drkathrynmannix It really is something everyone should listen to - by talking about dying doesn’t mean it’s going to happen any sooner but it might ( will) take some of the fear away.

Congrats @k_eagar and your team! This is progress! #agedcare @AnikaWells
The first Bill to pass the 47th Parliament includes the legislation to introduce the AN-ACC funding model that my team and I developed. Coupled with funding increases & mandated staffing levels, it is a critical building block to fixing the ailing aged care system @AnikaWells

Business leaders & owners, this one’s for you. And the first in a new content series that looks closely at how businesses can better support customers & colleagues through #grief and #loss.
Replying to @CEO_Violet
@CEO_Violet discusses how you can care for yourself, your team members and your business while dealing with grief. #regretgap #PalliativeCare #death #endoflife #grief #havetheconversation #BusinessOwner michellebroadbent.com.au/man…
Kudos @DrLindaDykes for this brave capture of the words & sentiments that are all too frequently in our hearts & minds, but sadly, too infrequently in our actual words & conversations around #endoflife #havetheconversation #regretgap
CPR is not a treatment for #ordinarydying. Every instance of futile CPR - which is what will happen if nobody has sorted out the protection of a DNACPR for someone whose life is coming to an end - is a tragedy. Please, doctors, nurses, patients, families - #havetheconversation.

So proud of the work @Violet_org_au is doing with leading banks, insurers, super funds to have kind, #compassionate conversations with customers, and to connect them to our free support programs. #Proud of the effort to do so much better than the thread below 😞
I dread the #sadmin that will come after my husband dies. Too many awful stories like the one below… #AnticipatoryGrief #TerminalCancer

Let’s learn to talk, plan and care for each other when the time comes. Let’s close the #regretgap And remember @Violet_org_au is here to help.
Regret is the difference between what we hope for, and what happens. Let’s work together to have the conversations that matter, and make this experience the best it can be, for everyone involved. #griefjourney #deathpositive #palliativecare #hospice #regretgap

More open, honest & frequent conversations in #agedcare contexts is key to better outcomes for staff, residents & families. We have an opportunity to modernise and socialise our attitudes to the last stage of life. Thanks @InsideAgeing

Sending #love & #admiration to family & friends of the incredibly brave #DameDeborahJames, lifting the veil on the last stage of life for a woman, a partner, & a parent living with a terminal disease. A huge effort to normalise the experience - thank you. theguardian.com/society/2022…
Such an important & heartfelt message @Liz_ORiordan @Violet_org_au provides free information, resources & support for the family, friends and caregivers of people with a life-limiting illness. Whatever your situation we are here to help. violet.org.au
If you have cancer, or know someone who has, it can be incredibly triggering when someone famous dies. 😰The death of Deborah James is tragic, but you need to look after yourself. 👉Step back from social media and the news, focus on your bubble and be kind to yourself 💛
