Be the good

Estevao, Cole Palmer, and João Pedro are the three players who come to mind. We have a LOT of work to do as a team, though, if we want to make this a reality. Champions League x League success is a must and we just haven’t seen this since our last UCL trophy (not even League).
Realistically, is there a current Chelsea player who you think could go on to win the Ballon d’Or?

Ballon d’Or this, Ballon d’Or that. All I’m worried about is how Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea respond in a couple days against Liverpool after a horrific result against Tottenham.

I think the biggest surprise from the Tottenham result is how quickly some people in the Chelsea fanbase flip flopped. They were singing Xabi’s praises less than 7 days ago, after beating Bournemouth and Everton. Now, he needs to be sacked or is on “fraud” watch. These people talk about “standards” when in reality, their low attention span (impatience) is kicking in. If you GENUINELY want what’s best for the Club, then Xabi Alonso should not be sacked.

One thing the Tottenham result showed me is that we DESPERATELY need Alex Scott in this team. He’ll help us maintain possession and will provide more athleticism next to Caicedo. Henderson has been great, considering the context, but no doubt about Alex being the better player.

We should never be losing at home to Tottenham in the manner that we did, but we need to be self aware. It could be better, but we sit in a good position. A rollercoaster season is inevitable with a new manager who plays meticulous football (in a good way) at the helm. It’s important we respond in a positive manner by putting together a good performance against Liverpool. What are your early season thoughts? Should we be worried after the Tottenham result, or are we pretty calm?
Early days but Chelsea end the weekend in 5th.

Xabi Alonso single handedly ended Bayern Munich’s 11 year Bundesliga run with Leverkusen. All while going invincible. Xabi in “big” games is the LAST thing I’m worried about.
Xabi Alonso in big matches as a manager: ❌ 0-2 vs Spurs ❌ 1-2 vs Arsenal ❌ 2-3 vs Barcelona ✅ 2-1 vs Atlético Madrid ❌ 1-2 vs Man City ❌ 0-1 vs Liverpool ✅ 2-1 vs Barcelona ❌ 2-5 vs Atlético Madrid ❌ 0-4 vs PSG ❌ 2-4 vs Dortmund ❌ 0-2 vs Bayern ❌ 0-3 vs Bayern ❌ 0-4 vs Liverpool ❌ 0-3 vs Atalanta 14 big matches. 2 wins. 12 losses. Embarrassing.

Look at the reactions under this post. PLEASE, do not let your emotions get the best of you. Xabi Alonso is the Manager we all wanted most and now, it’s up to us to back him through dire times. One loss won’t change my mind about him. Think objectively, not subjectively.
🚨 BREAKING: Xabi Alonso has accepted to become Chelsea next manager, HERE WE GO! 🔵🔜 The agreement is set to be completed. #CFC prepare official announcement for the upcoming days, but Xabi said YES. 💣

Supporters really think a Manager like Cesc Fabregas would want to manage Chelsea with “fans” reacting like this? Xabi Alonso has been at the helm for 10 games. This fear mongering is just used for interactions.

No matter what anyone says, Gaffer, I’ll be behind you until the VERY end.

This isn’t the “old” Clearlake that we’ve seen since they took over. In the summer, we saw statements of intent with the signings we were making. Morgan Rogers, Emi, Welbeck, Henderson, Palestra, etc… We’re clearly backing the Gaffer. Greatness takes TIME, which is what Xabi Alonso needs and deserves. Enough of this lack of composure nonsense. It’s okay to question Xabi, but to call for his job lest than 10 matches into the season is absurd.

This may not mean a lot to some, but how many red cards did we get last season and how many of our players actually apologized for their mistakes? Another great example of Xabi Alonso changing the culture around the Club, proving that we’re taking steps in the right direction.

I’m beyond frustrated with the Tottenham result, however, I’m not even close to thinking about Xabi Alonso needing to be sacked. Anyone who’s thinking along these lines right now is REALLY overreacting. We were just singing his praises less than a week ago and now, people are ready to jump ship. This is incredibly unhealthy for the Chelsea fanbase (and has been constant for years now). Look at the beginning of Xabi’s tenure with Bayer Leverkusen. It took them time to play his football, keep clean sheets, build consistency, etc. Support the squad through the highs AND lows.

Surely, I can expect Chelsea fans not to overreact by calling for Xabi Alonso to be sacked… Right?

Xabi Alonso is the only person to blame for that result. No, this doesn’t mean people need to be asking for him to be sacked (come on…), but questions need to be asked about that performance. We were dreadful. At home, to SPURS.

Before you have a go at Mike Penders, reminder that he’s a 21 y/o goalkeeper. Last weekend, he became the youngest goalkeeper to ever make an appearance in the Premier League for Chelsea. Unfair to the player to blame this result on him.

Poor from Xabi Alonso. Worst performance we’ve seen from his Chelsea. This one’s going to be REALLY hard to get over.

Are we in agreement on that being the worst half of our season? We looked lost in possession. Out of possession, our press has been good enough to win this game (Tottenham playing out of this well at times). Other than that, though… Very poor.
