Time for another Spot the Fake! Only one of these Tempest (1997) Ancient Tombs is genuine. Ancient Tomb is an uncommon, so it’s easy to assume nobody would bother faking it. However, our graders caught three red flags with this one: 1️⃣ The card name: The drop shadow behind “Tomb” is much thicker, and the letters sit closer together. Look at the gap between the “m” and the “b.” 2️⃣ The set symbol: Tempest’s storm cloud has a thick white border on genuine cards. On the fake, it’s much thinner. 3️⃣ The background texture: Genuine ’90s Magic cards have a circular texture pattern in the background. On the fake, it’s washed out and muted, a clear sign it wasn’t printed on official cardstock.

Card of the Month: Nico Robin (Leader) 🏴‍☠️ From One Piece Card Game’s Emperors in the New World (OP-09), Nico Robin was the star of Purple/Yellow decks in early competitive play. What makes her special? Normally, taking damage in One Piece gives a player the chance to activate a Trigger effect, which can heal, knock out the attacker’s cards, or generate resources. Robin’s [Banish] shuts that down completely. Any card she trashes is gone with no Trigger. Add her ability to farm DON!! cards, and she was a powerhouse Leader. ⚔️ 📊 82 graded by CGC (Leader and Alternate Art combined) 🏅 Median grade: CGC Gem Mint 10 ✨ Highest grade: CGC Pristine 10, like this Alternate Art Parallel

Before Messi, Ronaldo, Maradona, and Pelé, there was Ferenc Puskas. ⚽ A 1946-47 Nannina Tecnicolor Ferenc Puskas Hand Cut, widely considered the Hungarian legend’s true rookie card, just graded at an impressive CGC Mint 9. These stamp-sized cards came inside special “edizione straordinaria” issues of Italian newspapers after World War II, and collectors had to cut them out by hand. Eighty years later, surviving copies are few and far between, and only a small number of Puskas rookies have ever been graded. Puskas is one of the greatest goal scorers ever: 802 goals in 792 official matches for club and country. He won three European Cups with Real Madrid and Olympic gold in 1952, and led Hungary to the 1954 World Cup final. Today, FIFA’s award for the year’s most beautiful goal still bears his name 🏆
