Israel has no intention of allowing a Palestinian state (never did). But what do they propose instead? xitter.cf/Shepherds4Good/status/…
Working on a data project and thought I'd put this map together to show just how fast the colonization of the West Bank is happening: Since Jan 2025, Israel has signed orders for 115 of the 191 settlements. In the ten years before, 39.

Germany is running out of refineries, and it now admits that’s a problem. Economy Minister Katherina Reiche: “Whoever loses the refinery loses not only the supply for the gas station, but above all for the chemical complex.” Berlin now says it wants to stop more refineries closing. Look at the timing. Shell stopped processing crude at its 140,000 b/d Wesseling refinery last year. BP’s 250,000 b/d Gelsenkirchen has been up for sale since early 2025 with no buyer. Scotland lost Grangemouth, 150,000 b/d. Europe chose to import its diesel and jet fuel. Now the imports are the problem. Russian diesel exports hit a decade low. Gulf fuel exports run at about half of normal. US diesel costs about twice a barrel of crude. On Friday Germany’s stockpiling agency EBV put out a tender to sell diesel, heating oil and crude from its strategic reserves. In July it was still buying diesel to refill them. Germany’s reserve was meant for an emergency. It’s now dipping into it as winter starts. You can shut a refinery in a year. Building one takes most of a decade.

A century ago, Britain and France drew a line through German 'Kamerun' in Africa. The line itself disappeared from the map decades ago. Yet it still divides Cameroon by language, law, education, and increasingly, by armed conflict. This is Cameroon’s “Anglophone Problem”. 1/n

The unmeritocracy that runs Britain. xitter.cf/spectator/status/21138…
The Civil Service must be a magnet for the best and brightest,' writes cabinet secretary Antonia Romeo on the civil service website. But Mr S has been wondering if the stats stand up to the slogan… It turns out that 70 per cent of those applying to the civil service summer internship programme in 2026 were barred because they were deemed to be in the wrong social class. That amounted to 4,148 young people. ✍️ Steerpike Article | spectator.com/article/class-… | @MrSteerpike

I don’t understand why left wing politicians are not fully behind the Chagossians’ desire for a say over what happens to their homeland. It seems to be a right wing cause.
NEW Chagossians celebrate in Westminster Hall this lunchtime after peers voted to give them a veto on any transfer of sovereignty of the Chagos Islands to Mauritius. Will the government let it become law?

CHAGOS SURRENDER UPDATE The excellent @LordWeirDUP just moved his Bill to prevent the government from transferring sovereignty over the British Indian Ocean Territory without the consent of both Parliament and the diaspora Chagossian population. Every speaker was against the handover except the luckless minister. The Labour and LibDem benches were, as usual, deserted. No one supports this dreadful deal. The question is whether Labour will take the off ramp, or whether they will follow the FCDO plan to wait until a change of administration in Washington and then reheat the same old proposal.

More on how Britain would manage a sovereign wealth fund, and why we don't have one. xitter.cf/ross_baglin/status/211…
Brilliant article by Juliet Samuel in The Times today. London’s City Bridge foundation, a charity commenced in the 13th century to maintain London’s bridges, is being systematically looted on a grand scale to fund Leftist causes since the City of london Corporation, its only trustee, amended its charter in 1995 to fund “other charitable purposes”. since then, inter alia: £1.2m in 2023 granted to “strengthen representation of the London’s Muslim-led charity Sector” £1m over seven years to “ build capacity in the trans and sex worker sectors”. £15m into a “climate action strategy” fund. in 2024 2025 the foundation spent £13 million on bridges and £82 million on grants. Meanwhile, Hammersmith Bridge remains …. closed.

Brexit didn't cause the structural hollowing out of our economy; the 2008 crash did. The EU isn't a progressive haven, rejoining won't fix our problems. It's a distraction from the real task: a rupture with neoliberal orthodoxy. My piece for @politicshome buff.ly/eW4uUl3

What a British Sovereign Wealth fund would look like in reality xitter.cf/RicHolden/status/21133…
This is clearly insane. A charity set up to maintain London’s bridges is sitting on £1.5 BILLION, funding political campaigns and giving £1.1m to a group with links to a charity now under investigation over alleged Hamas connections. Meanwhile, Hammersmith Bridge is still closed and other Thames crossings are crumbling. What on earth are @cityoflondon doing? Via @Fhamiltontimes in @TheTimes thetimes.com/article/1932707…

Another great example of how Brexit polling shifts when the issue of sovereignty is raised... 🤔 In this case, 47% agree that the UK Government should control who comes into Britain, even if this means a more limited relationship with the EU 👇 source: ipsos.com/en-uk/brits-less-f…
