Simple athletic move that keeps hitter on time, facilitates vision, and feeling “behind” the ball. Ultimately creating zone coverage, adjustability and building consistency.

Contact points + learning how to hit the ball deep AND out front 🔥
This topic and how we can train it isn’t talked about enough.
Great hitters can do both.

In soft toss you shouldn’t let yourself get so geared up that you lose feel of everything..find good barrels and clean moves”🧼
Listen to Eugene talk with a High School player on how and why swinging harder doesn’t always equate the hitting the ball harder?🗣️

Sharing from inside our @GGC_Baseball program:
Staple of an elite team offense is how they move 1B ➡️ 3B on base hits.
At GGC, we do NOT use the 3B Coach to make these decisions! Ever.
As a runner, once you see OF positioning - the ball off the bat tells you everything!

Hitters….free advice coming. The most important part of ur body, while hitting, are your eyes! If u keep ur eyes as still as possible, ur chances of correct pitch recognition, go way up. How do we do that? Ur base!!! As solid as possible. If u limit lower body movement, eyes won’t move as much. Lotta lower body movement, more chance of eyes bouncing. Also, and this ties in with the eyes…..best piece of advice I ever got was from Willie Stargell….he said ‘fast feet promote slow hands, slow feet promote quick hands’. Slow feet in the stride, promote minimal eye movement and quick hands. Boom….let it eat!!!

Thanks Trey. Great point. Played with Mikey in 19. Played against him forever.
See the athleticism on the front side in a breaking ball. Stays down through it. Head down. If he dumps “snaps” barrel behind him and spins on back side …he’s out. Either roll over or swing and miss.
Our hands work as extensions of our body. Dumping them back first move takes 2.ft of barrel length, at least, out of strike zone. This decreases chances of clean contact immensely.

Great question.
Biggest reason is that analytics has taken a massive role in the development of the game. Launch angle, exit velo, bunch of bs in my opinion.
These are fancy words for hitting the ball hard out in front. Just people naming things to sound smart who never played.
Younger players have come up through the ranks focusing strictly on data (new school) vs results(old school)
For example, I hit .300 in 2014. Bunch of doubles, and my best statistical year. If you go watch every double I had, which was 54 total, I think?, can’t remember exactly but I’d say 15-20 of those doubles were duck fart flares. Jam shots. Lucky hits basically.
Or, conversely, were they lucky or were they a by product of a swing that was focused on a quality bat path with barrel length and time through the zone that facilitated a room for (timing) error swing? A path that led to my timing being off, getting jammed, and still fighting for a hit that drove in a run that contributed to winning a game.
This is what great hitters do. I wasn’t one of the best but I had a couple of decent years. Great , true hitters, not “swingers”, get jammed and get those extra 15-20 knocks a year that add RBIs, OBP, hits, etc.
These modern players have gotten so used to Instagram hitting coaches and mlb analytics team valuing and teaching certain things. Like homers. Trying to hit the ball in the air. Instead of low line drives with back spin.
They are great and all but if you want to be a good hitter then focus on hitting line drives and the homers will come.
Striking out is not okay either. Too many guys are fine with it. I hated to strike out. More than anything. Loathed.
This is the main issue of the modern hitter.
Replying to @JLucroy20
Why do you think MLB hitting has gotten progressively worse in recent years? If MLBers are being taught by Ex-MLBers who have done it at the highest level and have the experience and wisdom you look for, why are averages dropping and strikeouts increasing?

5-10 years ago, Hitting Twitter was THE SPOT for hitting development
Most of those coaches got hired to MLB orgs or quit posting
The new wave is all on Insta / TikTok
We need them more on Twitter
Real. Conversational. Raw.
Educational vs edit and click bait.

When training hitters before the game..
I would set up in 3 sections
- Machine on mound, mimic starter fastball + breaking ball (warm up brain for competition)
- In cage, tune in swing, movement prep
- Hitter meeting to go over game plan -> 12 hitters vs 1, beat the pitcher
