Hello @marcgoone @hungryhorsepokr I thought of a content idea for y'all today.
Run a weekly online cash game with people from basecamp for the sole purpose of teaching. Think hustlers live BUT, Marc reviews the hands from that week.
Start with an online model then go live once you prove it out and there's more demand
its good weekly content for Marc to review and you can sell it to your base camp attendees for an additional cost.
Can be real or fake money whatever your basecamp folks decide.
The base idea is that people will pay to be on stream playing poker to show their friends for fun. I think this theory is correct just need to prove the model.
Turns out your retirement is on you. Nobody is coming to save you.
Walmart once promised a truck driver $100,000 if he stuck around for 20 years. He stuck around. He retired with $707,000.
Sam Walton offered that same deal to everyone, including a lady named Gayle who started at the Owensboro store around 1981.
Back then Walmart automatically dropped up to 4% of your pay into profit sharing. You put in nothing. The company funded all of it, mostly in Walmart stock, and the stock went up for 40 straight years. Cashiers and shelf stockers from that era retired with six and seven figures. As late as 2008 Walmart was still putting $724 million a year into retirement money for 839,000 hourly workers.
Then in February 2011, Walmart killed it.
The free money became a 401k match, which only pays if a worker making $11 an hour can spare 6% of her own check. Most can't. The savings went to quarterly store bonuses instead.
So Gayle worked about 30 years under Sam's deal and 14 under the replacement.
Here's the part nobody in the comments will guess. If she was enrolled early, those first three decades of stock may have quietly done more for her retirement than any party ever could. A greeter in a blue vest can be sitting on more money than her store manager.
Everyone's mad about the flowers. The thing worth being mad about happened in 2011, and nobody took a photo of that.

Don't underestimate esports retirement. People only get it when compared to traditional sports.. pro athletes get guidance, but here, you're on your own. If you're transitioning, please reach out to a coach or therapist. Don't face the crash alone; it's not a joke.
The most profitable line as covered by @marcgoone & @hungryhorsepokr
In the Wolfgang vlog for his main event - youtube.com/watch?v=bIIJAiVD…
OPENs, Cbets Flop, Checks River, Bluffs, second hand of the video.
Funny when we see the line live in action.
EWC put the same $1M on rocket league as street fighter 6. tekken too. a solo fighting game player competes for the same pool an entire RL roster has to split. wild way to value a team game

The most effective way to create wealth is boring.
It's "buy and hold".
I bought a Kobe card for $6,000 in 2007 and sold it for $17,000 in 2009.
I thought I won.
Today that card is worth over $2,000,000.
Be patient.
the EWC club champion gets a $7M check this month. the players on that roster get whatever their contract says they get. if you don't know your split, that's the whole problem. know your number before the trophy ceremony
Craime just won $250k at the esports world cup. he's 15. no players association, no rookie program, nobody assigned to explain what happens to that check. esports hands out adult money with zero adult infrastructure. somebody in his corner better be good.
argued about the word scholarship all week with people who actually run these programs. plenty defended the word. not one defended leaving the dollar amount off the offer letter. so lets just do that part.
half the kids i talk to in this scene are planning around a career that ends at 26 and none of them are planning around the 60 years after it. thats not a them problem. nobody in the room is paid to bring it up.
"esports scholarship" is the wrong word and its costing programs recruits. most of these are a few grand against a tuition bill, not a ride. say that out loud and families can actually plan. right now parents hear scholarship and stop listening.
orgs should have to escrow a cut of prize money for the players. no association, no pension, nothing vesting, and a 22 year old with one bad split is just done. every other sport worked this out decades ago and esports keeps acting like it wont come due.
the argument i keep having with people: at 19 making 40k, roth beats traditional and its not close. everyone tells them to take the deduction. at that bracket the deduction is worth almost nothing and theyre trading 45 years of tax free growth for it. i will die on this hill.
every sponsorship recap deck in esports counts logo seconds. i have built them. the number is always huge and always meaningless.
@koplenkoo ran an AI audit on one event: 40 hours of paid logo time, 11 minutes a human could actually read.
the day a sponsor asks for readable seconds instead of on-screen seconds, half the rate cards in this space break.
i say this as a guy who has billed the 40 with a straight face.
RLCS worlds: 20 teams, $1.2M, fort worth in september. winner takes $300k of that pool, so roughly $100k a man on a 3 stack before taxes. Not including team splits.
i have watched guys treat that check like it repeats. it does not.
congrats in advance to whoever i have to interview about it.
NACE convention starts today in Jacksonville. 280+ programs, $50M a year in scholarships across 16,000 kids.
that's $4,800 a head. most awards cover a quarter to three quarters of tuition.
parents hear "esports scholarship" and stop listening at the word scholarship. i have this conversation constantly.
take the aid, take the internship too. the broadcast job pays better than the roster spot anyway.
a $500,000 Major win is the number that goes on the graphic.
boston 2018, cloud9 first place. every earnings site says $100k a man, but that's just the prize divided by five. what the org actually kept isn't public. if they took a standard 20, it's $80k.
then federal and self employment tax take a fifth to a quarter of whatever's left. you land somewhere in the fifties or low seventies.
and that's the guy who WON. most pros never get one.

Rebrand is LIVE!
We're back to discussing everything @lolesports, now as the #DailyRiftHerald
This episode covers the @LCSOfficial Summer Week 1!
How did @LyonLATAM perform without MVP Jungler Inspired and did the @C9LoL 7 man roster make the impact their staff expected?

Little man got croup, it’s actually no big deal. Taking 4 hours to decide to take him: was the biggest challenge he was going in and out of trying to breathe.
He kept breathing fine, then getting pissed and having trouble breathing. I laid him down in the bed and felt his chest, he would have these 4 second gaps and I finally could not take it and took him to the ER.
Now I understand it’s normal and no big deal but the struggle of when to seek help is hard.
My battle with pride is never ending.
