EXCLUSIVE: In less than 12 hours, a group of ex-DOGE cyber researchers were able to penetrate Anthropic’s systems using AI agents — including Slack channels where the most sensitive models are discussed. This is just weeks after Anthropic whistleblower Joseph Coxon charged the company w/launching “a hubristic gamble” from a “private company’s Slack.” Read our story here (gift link): wapo.st/4smNlsC

Meta has built a trillion-dollar business using willfully unfair, anticompetitive, deceptive, and unconscionable practices. The unilateral change to its use of business website content buried in its TOS is but the latest example. courtneyradsch.substack.com/…

Voters who Googled how to donate to Talarico got an AI answer that led them to give to someone else. A network of fake news sites seeded messaging about state and local candidates that AI answers picked up on. My story on how the AI midterms are going: theatlantic.com/technology/2…

Starlink has become critical military infrastructure. But it remains under the control of Elon Musk, a billionaire who can decide who gets access and on what terms. That's far too much power for one private company (& CEO) to wield. New from @MaxvonThun: substack.com/home/post/p-221…

If you're a business or artist with intellectual property, watch the clock. 10 days until Meta claims the right to scrape your website to develop its AI. Your consent? Apparently unnecessary. All it takes is someone sharing a link on Facebook or Instagram - or you using Meta's services.
As Nieman Lab first reported (and followed up Saturday after Meta announced a revision), Meta is unilaterally updating its commercial terms next week in a manner that might claim sweeping rights over intellectual property across the open web. Significant concerns remain. 1/3

This is exactly the kind of AI financing risk (and exposure to the wider economy) we examine in our new report with @RealBankReform, out today: openmarketsinstitute.org/pub…
“If CoreWeave is borrowing at 9% and the best return they can get off of that is a 5% return, it doesn’t matter how much they scale: They’re destroying value at every turn…That’s especially true for the type of neocloud that funds their entire investment based on debt. The more leverage we use to build data centers, the more risk we’re bringing into the system.” bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

New in @monthly: Daniel Hanley & Arnav Rao argue that AI companies do not need an antitrust exemption & should instead use a broadly representative, government-supervised standards body to set clear safeguards for frontier AI development. washingtonmonthly.com/2026/1…

Eventually our entire economy will be structured around generating advertising revenue for big tech companies.
Microsoft has filed a patent for ads that could interrupt games after boss fights, cutscenes, quests and multiplayer rounds Players would receive credits granting temporary game access, while watching an ad would award another credit to let them resume

Some news: USA Today is cutting staff and reorganizing its audience team. The changes are designed to address the depreciation of search traffic, which is “under pressure” as “platforms are increasingly keeping user experiences to themselves.” The internal memo:

The FCC just announced it will move forward with its unlawful effort to hand control of the public airwaves to billionaire buddies of this administration. This will destroy local newsrooms, silence community reporting, and drive-up costs for American families.

Just read the complaint. This is a strong, traditional lawsuit - no frills, no untested theories. Just the recognition of the obvious fact that if you combine two of the biggest five studios, they're going to feel less pressure to make new films. If you merge one company that owns an alphabet soup of channels with another company that owns an alphabet soup of channels, people will pay for that on their cable bill. The billionaires who own Paramount win, you lose, your local movie theater loses, and all the people who make film and television lose, too. I think @AGRobBonta, @NewYorkStateAG James and their colleagues will win this, and anyone on Wall Street who is pricing this otherwise should take a moment to read the lawsuit.

News we were hoping to hear:
Today, I am leading 12 states in challenging the proposed merger of Warner Bros. and Paramount and asking the court to block the deal. California's film and entertainment industry touches the lives of Americans daily. We’re going to court to fight for a free and fair market and protect this iconic industry. oag.ca.gov/news/press-releas…
