Some conversations need more than a listening ear. They need honest questions, different perspectives and the courage to challenge what we think we know. That is the value of intergenerational dialogue. Through CMD-Kenya’s Kijana Jitokeze Uwajibike, young people sit across the table from experienced leaders, creating room for questions that matter, lessons drawn from lived experience and perspectives that may never emerge if generations remain in separate corners. It is an opportunity for young people to better understand political and civic spaces, navigate the realities of leadership and reflect on their role, alongside that of government, in shaping a better Kenya. Because democracy grows stronger when generations do not just speak, but engage, question and learn from one another. 11m

What does it mean to put Kenya’s national interest first, and who gets to define it? 🇰🇪 In the second edition of the Kijana Jitokeze Uwajibike – Intergenerational Dialogue Series, Amb. Julius Okara and Awori Achoka engaged young people on Kenya’s national interest, development choices and the role of youth in shaping the country’s future. CMD-Kenya continues to create spaces where different generations come together to exchange ideas, challenge perspectives and learn from one another. Because building the Kenya we want requires conversations that bridge generations and give young people a voice in shaping our shared future.

What happens when generations sit in the same room, share experiences and ask each other the questions that matter? A lot can be learned. 🗣️ Through the Kijana Jitokeze Uwajibike Intergenerational Dialogue Series, CMD-Kenya creates spaces where young people can learn from the journeys, mistakes, successes and lessons of those who have walked the path before them, while bringing their own questions, ideas and perspectives to the table. Our 5th dialogue with journalist Njeri Rugene was a reminder that learning goes both ways. Young people got to hear firsthand experiences from a career in journalism, reflect on the choices that shape public narratives, and engage with questions of truth and integrity. These conversations matter because leadership is not built in isolation. It grows when experiences are shared, assumptions are challenged and generations make room to listen to one another. That is why CMD-Kenya continues to bring generations together: because the future is better shaped when we learn from both where we have come from and where we hope to go.

There’s something about a dialogue that brings experience, fresh perspectives and a few unexpected stories into the same room. 🗣️ At our 5th Kijana Jitokeze Uwajibike Intergenerational Dialogue, Njeri Rugene took us *Beyond the Headlines: Truth, Power and the Politics of Public Narratives.* From the importance of integrity in journalism to the pressures of telling the truth, the conversation gave us a glimpse into the realities of working in the media. Njeri shared experiences from her career, including moments that had some of the young people in the room hearing stories they had only ever imagined! But beyond the laughter was something deeper. Hearing about her journey, where she started and how far she has come, was a powerful reminder to the young people in the room that growth takes time, the choices we make matter, and integrity is worth holding on to, even when the pressure is on. An honest conversation, a lot of laughs, plenty of questions and lessons to carry forward.

What happens when a generation that fought for constitutional reform meets a generation asking whether the promises of the Constitution are being realised? CMD Kenya, in collaboration with @BusaraCenter , brings you the next edition of the Kijana Jitokeze Uwajibike Intergenerational Dialogue Series, featuring Justice (Rtd.) Dr. Willy Mutunga, EGH. Under the theme “The Constitution from the Ground Up,” we revisit Kenya’s democratic journey to ask some hard questions: Has justice remained within reach of ordinary citizens? How do we turn constitutional promises into lived realities? And what role must young people play in advancing Kenya’s unfinished democratic project? 💬🇰🇪 History has lessons. The present has questions. The future needs our ideas. 🤝🏾 🎥 Stay tuned!

The shilling tells a story. Your vote helps shape what comes next. 🇰🇪 Heading to Mashilingi na Manoti this Saturday at the Railway Museum, Nairobi? Make your visit count beyond the conversations on Kenya’s economy. CMD-Kenya is supporting the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to bring on-site voter registration to the festival, giving eligible Kenyans who are not yet registered an opportunity to register right where they are. While you're there, take part in voter education, civic knowledge quizzes and civic feedback and sentiment collection. It's an opportunity to learn more about the electoral process, test your civic knowledge and share your views on issues that matter to you. Because democracy isn't just about how a country manages its money. It's also about how its people participate in shaping its future. Come for the conversations. Leave on the voters' roll.🗳️ 📍 Railway Museum, Nairobi 📅 Saturday, 24 October

Who shapes the stories we hear, and whose truth gets told? 👀🗞️ On 23rd October, CMD-Kenya will host Njeri Rugene, a senior Kenyan journalist, for *Beyond the Headlines: Truth, Power and Politics of Public Narratives*, as part of the Kijana Jitokeze Uwajibike – Intergenerational Dialogue Series. Drawing on her experience in journalism and public affairs, Njeri will lead a candid conversation on how political narratives are shaped, the pressures that influence media coverage, and the ethical choices between loyalty, expediency and truth. With social media giving more people a voice while making misinformation harder to navigate, this is an opportunity for young leaders and communication practitioners to reflect on how they inform, engage and communicate responsibly. 📝 Because the stories we tell, the voices we amplify and the information we share all shape our democratic space 🇰🇪

Young people are moving from the sidelines to the spaces where decisions are made. 🤝🏾🗳️ Across Kenya, young people are increasingly recognising that civic responsibility extends beyond voting or voicing concerns. It also means taking up space within political parties, engaging in decision-making and contributing to the policies, structures and practices that shape democratic governance. Through the Kijana Jitokeze Uwajibike Programme, CMD Kenya continues to create opportunities for young political leaders to strengthen their capacity, learn across party lines and champion meaningful change within their own institutions. The recently concluded peer learning exchange between Kenyan and Danish youth political leaders was one such opportunity - creating space to exchange ideas, challenge existing practices and reflect on how political parties can become more inclusive, responsive and accountable. 🇰🇪🇩🇰 Because meaningful youth participation is not just about being present. It is about having a voice, exercising agency and helping shape the institutions you belong to. 🌱

Young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow. They are political actors today. 💡🤝🏾 At CMD Kenya, we believe meaningful youth participation goes beyond preparing young people for future leadership. It means investing in their capacity to contribute to decisions, influence political party processes and shape democratic governance now. That is why, through the Kijana Jitokeze Uwajibike Programme, we continue to invest in interparty youth league engagements, including the recently concluded peer learning exchange that brought together young political leaders from Kenya and Denmark. 🇰🇪🇩🇰 These exchanges create opportunities for young leaders to share experiences, interrogate existing practices and develop practical approaches to strengthening youth participation, internal party democracy and issue-based politics. Because empowering young people is not simply about giving them a seat at the table. It is about ensuring they have the knowledge, relationships and opportunities to meaningfully contribute to the decisions being made. The future of democracy is being shaped today. Young people must be part of that process. 🌱

Democracy is an intergenerational responsibility - and young people are central to its future. 🌍🤝🏾 Across countries and political contexts, young people share the aspiration to build societies that are more inclusive, accountable and responsive to their needs. Yet, turning these aspirations into reality requires opportunities to participate, influence decisions and learn from one another. Through the Kijana Jitokeze Uwajibike Programme, CMD Kenya creates spaces for young political leaders in Kenya and beyond to exchange experiences, explore shared challenges and imagine new possibilities for democratic leadership. Our peer learning exchange in Makueni County, bringing together Kenyan and Danish youth political leaders, reflects this commitment to dialogue across borders, political affiliations and experiences. 🇰🇪🇩🇰 Because the future of democracy should not simply be handed to young people; they should have a meaningful role in shaping it. 💬🌱

Different parties. Shared democratic responsibilities. Opportunities to learn and collaborate across borders. 🤝🏾🇰🇪🇩🇰 Political parties are essential to a functioning multiparty democracy. At CMD Kenya, we recognise the importance of political competition while harnessing our convening power to create spaces for dialogue, cooperation and issue-based engagement across party lines. Through the Kijana Jitokeze Uwajibike Programme, our Inter-Party Youth Leadership Coaching and Peer Learning Exchange in Makueni County brought together youth league representatives from Kenyan political parties and their Danish counterparts to explore how young people can strengthen internal party democracy, influence decision-making and build more inclusive political institutions. Beyond strengthening youth participation within individual parties, these exchanges create opportunities for cross-party collaboration in Kenya and international peer learning with young political leaders from other contexts. 💬🌍 Because strengthening multiparty democracy is not only about the parties themselves; it is also about creating opportunities for them to learn from one another, collaborate on shared governance challenges and nurture a generation of leaders committed to constructive, issue-based politics.
