CNN is covering controversies over AI-written work while getting paid to license its journalism for AI products. On October 15, CNN announced a multiyear Google partnership and explicitly said it would receive compensation. My take: covering AI’s risks while doing AI business isn’t automatically hypocrisy. But it raises a bigger question: who gets paid, who gets discovered, and where do independent writers fit? AI can help a small newsroom research documents, draft faster and explain complicated stories. It can also produce convincing mistakes. The advantage depends on checking the work.
