Using a direct quote from our opening statement at the #PlasticsTreaty #INC1 on behalf of all NGOs, the @UN Secretary General agrees that we must look upstream to #BreakFreeFromPlastic!
Plastics are fossil fuels in another form & pose a serious threat to human rights, the climate & biodiversity.
As negotiations towards an agreement to #BeatPlasticPollution continue, I call on countries to look beyond waste and turn off the tap on plastic.

LIVE from UNEA: The Closing Plenary of #UNEA5 is underway. The Assembly will make important decisions about the #plasticstreaty. If passed this agreement will help us create a legally binding treaty to address the full lifecycle of plastics to protect our people & planet.
"Our future is not disposable"!!!
⏲️Today at #UNEA5, when gavel made from down-cycled plastic will fall, the world will enter into a new beginning of global plastics governance, because our future is not disposable.
