"CPJ is appalled by reports of the Israeli military shooting towards journalists @cbonneauimages and Ali Ezzeddine in southern #Lebanon. The two journalists were accompanied by a Lebanese soldier when the incident took place, and Ezzedine was wearing a clearly marked 'Press' vest when a bullet hit the wall they were standing next to. Journalists are not a target, and these dangerous actions underscore an ongoing pattern of press obstruction in southern Lebanon." — Sara Qudah, MENA Regional Director

"CPJ strongly condemns the Israeli military’s demolition of journalist @radwanmortada family home in southern #Lebanon. Just three weeks earlier, Mortada released an @AJArabic documentary on the #Israel 2024 pager attack. In the days leading up to the demolition, Israeli soldiers launched a sound bomb, a tank tore down the entrance, and soldiers looted personal belongings. CPJ fears this destruction is in retaliation for Mortada's work, marking another dangerous violation of international law and disregard for the press." — Sara Qudah, MENA Regional Director

I condemn yesterday's attacks by extremist Israeli settlers against Palestinian civilians and a Washington Post photographer in the West Bank. Prime Minister Netanyahu must take immediate action to stop this violence, protect Palestinian communities, and ensure those responsible are investigated and held accountable. Continued inaction endangers lives and undermines security and lasting peace for Israelis and Palestinians. washingtonpost.com/world/202…

Heidi Levine, photojournalist for @wapo suffered serious injuries from vicious & cowardly attack. Heidi is US Citizen, clear ID as journalist. Details of who under investigation, but those who attacked unarmed reporter should spend YRS in prison. We have called for a full investigation, arrest, and prosecution to the fullest extent of the law to whoever participated in this. Attacking a female photographer is despicable act of terror carried out by masked cowards. Dishonorable act of senseless violence.

The violence we’re seeing toward Palestinian civilians and members of the press in Israeli settlements is unacceptable. As is the Israeli government's enabling of it.   That's why I'm an original cosponsor of the Stop the Settlements Act which would sanction settlers to stop the construction of new settlements and expansion of existing ones. This is essential to stop the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians and create a true pathway to peace.

Civilians and journalists should never be targets. I'm horrified by attacks on Palestinian villagers and Washington Post photographer Heidi Levine. This attack, along with reports that nearby Israeli security forces did not intervene, demands a full investigation and real accountability—as do the many other instances of settler violence against Palestinian civilians and land in the West Bank. This is exactly why I introduced the West Bank Violence Prevention Act. Extremist settler violence, which endangers lives and undermines peace and security in the region, must end.

The extremist Jewish violence in the West Bank is out of control, and the Israeli government refuses to act to stop it. It's unacceptable. If Israelis care at all about reversing the collapse of Israel's standing in the United States, they need to elect a new government that will end it. In the meantime, the silence of the Trump administration is aiding and abetting the violence. Trump has the responsibility to use his considerable leverage on Israeli officials to end it. So far, he has not done so. That's also unacceptable.

I am horrified by this attack on Palestinian villagers and Washington Post photographer Heidi Levine.

Reports that this was a coordinated attack are incredibly concerning, as are reports that IDF soldiers did not intervene.

I will continue to call for an investigation and accountability.

The continued lack of accountability for settler violence in the West Bank has allowed attacks on innocent people, including multiple Americans, to go unanswered, and it is eroding what should be a strong alliance between the U.S. and Israel. Prime Minister Netanyahu isn't doing nearly enough to stop the violence.

Israeli settlers beat Washington Post photographer Heidi Levine. She said attackers picked her up, then threw her down again and kept kicking. They operate with impunity. We need to cut off aid to Israel that is used to fund settler activity, and stop the sales of these weapons.

The brutal, unprovoked attack on Palestinian villagers and Washington Post journalist Heidi Levine is reprehensible. Israeli authorities must hold those responsible for this attack accountable and stop enabling broader efforts to annex the West Bank. The safety of Palestinians, Israelis and Americans in the region depends on it.

The reported attack on Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine by West Bank settlers is unconscionable and a moment of reckoning for the world. Are we going to tolerate accelerating vigilante violence against Palestinian civilians and foreign observers by right-wing vigilantes who operate with government protection? Given that Trump lifted President Biden's sanctions on vigilante settlers, we must work to end this chaos and insist upon protection of human rights and the rule of law on the West Bank.
