Free and fair elections are an essential foundation of democracy. I was shocked and heartbroken to hear about the suspicious substance mailed to the Washington Secretary of State's Elections Division this week.
I'm incredibly grateful to the members of the Arcadia 20 transitional hand crew, who provided critical firefighting support during the Spokane fires this summer. I'm proud of this impactful program and the work these men do to protect our state. khq.com/news/arcadia-20-how-…
25 years ago, firefighters and first responders ran toward the flames to save as many lives as they could when the World Trade Center towers collapsed and our world changed forever.
One thing that didn’t change - as we’ve seen in communities across Washington all summer - is the bravery of our firefighters. More than 8,000 rushed to the call to fight the blazes burning across our landscapes.
The weather may be a bit cooler this weekend, but our forests are still unbelievably dry. It’s up to all of us to help the thousands of firefighters on the landscape now by being vigilant about doing anything that might spark the next wildfire.
One thing I hope we all take away from the devastation wildfires brought to Spokane is that we need to keep the pedal down on investments in healthy forests and a robust wildfire force.
I am heartbroken to learn of the deaths of three firefighters who lost their lives over the weekend while fighting fires in Utah and Oregon. My thoughts are with their families, friends, and fellow crew members.
More dry, windy weather is going to make things harder for our firefighters this weekend. Everyone in Washington needs to be smart and safe. Don’t be the spark that sets off another catastrophe. We all need to work together to weather this storm.
We’re ramping up for another tough weekend of wildfire weather. With more than 7,500 people helping fight fires across Washington, any new spark could be even more devastating for our state.
As some evacuation levels begin to lower and people return home, I'm happy to report our teams have established containment lines around the perimeters of the Spokane Area Fires and are attacking hot spots and mopping up areas still burning.
With everything going on in our state, it's easy to forget something as simple as voting - DON'T! Remember to get your ballot into an official drop box by 8:00 pm tonight. Our future is in our hands, so use them to fill out your ballot and drop it off!
I'm proud to have joined @GovBobFerguson, @MayorSpokane, @SenatorCantwell, and dozens of local elected officials to align our support of controlling the Spokane Complex Fires.
Today I heard the heartbreaking stories of people whose lives were turned upside down by wildfire. But I also saw the heartwarming scenes of communities coming together when their neighbors were in need.
