Mexican music legends, LOS TIGRES DEL NORTE, have agreed to come on June 10th to receive a Lifetime Recognition from the Monterey County Board of Supervisors for their work advocating for immigrants throughout their careers as part of our 50th Anniversary Commemoration of the El Cortito Ban legal case.
Originally from Sinaloa, Mexico, Los Tigres started out their careers in the United States in 1968 playing at a prison concert at Soledad Prison. We are excited they are returning to the Salinas Valley to be honored for using their music, fame and popularity to tell the stories about the hard work, struggles and sacrifices of our immigrant communities. 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF “EL CORTITO” BEING BANNED BY THE CALIFORNIA SUPREME COURT! Did you know that the legal case to end the use of “El Cortito” statewide arose out of Monterey County and that the lead plaintiff was el Señor #SebastianCarmona of Soledad? El Cortito caused severe back and skeletal damage to countless numbers of Braceros and other farmworkers over many decades!
The Monterey County Board of Supervisors will pay a special tribute to this landmark case that was led by renowned California Rural Legal Assistance, Inc. Attorneys #MoJourdane and #MartyGlick and the late legendary CRLA Community Worker #HectorDeLaRosa! @crlainc
