Prescribed Burning Planned in Teller County
Teller County, CO - Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU), in cooperation with the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC), will be igniting roughly 75 hand piles near North Catamount Reservoir on Tuesday, February 6th. All piles will be fully extinguished by the end of shift on Tuesday, as specified in the Teller County Burn Permit. Smoke may be visible in the area; please do not call 911 to report smoke.
Cooperating partners assisting with this project include the Colorado Springs Fire Department, Southern Colorado Interagency Wildland Team (SOCO), Northeast Teller Fire Protection District, and the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. Burning will only be conducted under specific guidelines established by DFPC, including having acceptable weather forecasts and fuels conditions that meet guidelines for safe and effective burning and adequate smoke dispersal.
The main objective of prescribed burning is to reduce hazardous fuel accumulation for public safety in addition to ecological health.
CSU works closely with other agencies, such as the Colorado Air Pollution Control Division, DFPC, and local authorities in developing and implementing any burning project.
Prescribed fire smoke may affect your health. For additional information, contact your doctor or health professional or visit cdphe.colorado.gov/indoor-ai….
