9th Wonder met a stranger in Raleigh NC in February of 2003. The stranger’s name was T. After listening to 9th beats, he told him “if I’m ever around somebody that needs some beats, I’ll them about you”.
In September of 2003, he gets a call from Young Guru telling him to come to NYC to play beats for JAY-Z.
2 months later on November 14th 2003, The Black Album dropped & he was on it. On the song they made, Hov said “9th Wonder”, & it changed 9th’s life. He was selling beats for $100-$300 before that.
His life changed in less than a year solely because he was prepared & super studious in his craft when he met the right stranger.

finally had chance to sit with the newest Deante’ Hitchcock album and man… this is so smooth!
it might be a lazy comparison, but it feels so Outkast influenced, but not in a bad way, but more like he’s took the baton and ran with it.
his writing is so good here, really gives you a glimpse into his mind, almost stream-of-consciousness through the tracklist. The production choices too? Man it feels so soulful. A song like ‘Almost There’ punches you right in the face. That final verse is one of my favourite verses of 2026.
Yeah, this record is gorgeous. I’ve been sleeping. Easily one of the best hip-hop albums of the year.
