Small Copper 2024 No 7, today in the Cotswolds. By orders of magnitude the poorest year I've known for this 'common' butt. Apparently, numbers have held up much better on acidic soils, where it breeds on Sheep Sorrel - only I've stayed neutral & calcareous.

On this day last year, the UK was at the end of a September heatwave, and recorded its hottest day of 2023 - reaching 33.5C at Faversham, Kent.
