Back in 2010, the minimum wage was £12,064 and the 'higher earner' band started at £43,875. You only paid 40% tax once you were earning 3.6x the minimum wage. There was clear incentive to progress, learn and aspire for more. As things stand, you now start paying 40% tax once you earn £50,270 which is just 1.83x the minimum wage. If it was the same multiple as 2010, the 'higher earning' band would be £98,841 and everyone below this amount would be paying 20%. Someone on £98,841 is effectively losing out on £9714.20 net per year if the bandings had simply moved in line with previous multiples relative to minimum wage. This is one of the reasons why the middle class is being eroded and why there's a cost of living crisis in the UK.
An increase to £13.20p/h equates to a minimum wage of £27,456, based on a 40 hour week. Once you factor in employers NI and basic pension contributions, the MINIMUM cost to hire a 21 year old for a company would be £31,461. This is before you factor in any overarching business costs like office space, laptops, phone, software, training, support staff, vehicles etc. This is going to be devastating to SME's who cant put together a simple 12 month budget without the goalposts being moved & their margins squeezed. It'll also be catastrophic to youngsters opportunities because businesses will simply not be able to afford to hire them. What's also incredible is that anything above £50,270 is seen as 'high earnings' in the UK and is taxed at 40%! We are governed by financially and economically illiterate morons. This will not end well.

The Great British Rip Off. We pay more for everything and what we get back is falling apart. Food is nearly 40% more expensive than five years ago and on track to be around 50% higher than mid-2021 by the end of this year. Olive oil has more than doubled. Beef, eggs, pasta and chocolate are all up by half or more. Diesel has just hit a record £2 a litre. Petrol is around 174p. A typical energy bill is £1,723 under the October price cap - 58% higher than winter 2021/22. £billions spent on importing oil and gas from Norway and the North Sea, while the government turns off the taps on new UK oil and gas licenses from the same sea. Gas rates are roughly 140% above mid-2021. One of the highest electricity rates in the world. The tax burden is at the highest since records began in the late 1940s and still forecast to climb even further. Employer National Insurance went up. Business rates land on the local independent shop. Retailers now hand over about 72p in business taxes for every £1 of pre-tax profit. Walk the high street and you can see where that money did not go. One in seven high street properties is empty. Hollowed out streets where proud local businesses used to stand bringing communities together. Over 70,000 UK shop closures since 2020. Retail jobs fell by 122,000 in two years. The UK hospitality sector has suffered a net loss of more than 16,000 licensed venues (including pubs, bars, clubs, and restaurants) since the start of the Covid in March 2020. A record 6,365 UK agriculture, forestry and fishing businesses closed in 2025 alone. Familiar names keep shrinking or vanishing - boarded windows, “to let” signs a vape shop where the butcher or the bank used to be. The places that held a town together are being taxed and costed out of existence while you are told the economy is being “supported.” The roads tell the same story. Councils in England and Wales face a record £18.6 billion backlog of carriageway repairs - twelve years of work. Only about half the local network is in good structural condition. More than 32,500 miles have less than five years of life left. Roads are resurfaced, on average, once every 97 years. 1 million potholes. Road drains left without regular cleaning. We pay record fuel prices to drive on roads that wreck tyres and suspension. Water is no better. Pipes leak, rivers take the sewage bills still rise. No major new reservoirs were built in England for over 30 years. Dozens sold off. And we end up getting told that we have a hosepipe ban when there’s a few days sunshine in July. Schools, hospitals and rail carry the same pattern: maintenance deferred, promises announced, yet more decay. But meanwhile data centres, solar panels and wind turbines are being plastered across prime farmland reducing our food supply, natural habitats and resources. And the people in charge? An MP’s basic salary is £98,599 - up 5% this year, more than 20% since the £81,932 they were on in 2021. Ministers take a second salary and huge expenses on top. Their pay is increased while our taxes continue rise - which helps to fund them to manage our decline. What is overdue is a massive, sustained cost-of-living protest - visible, peaceful, organised, impossible to shrug off by the government - until tax rises, food, fuel and energy prices and sense general decay stop crushing ordinary households and until the country we pay more and more for stops being left to rot by local and national governments.

This isn't all on City by the way. As I've said okay they've been deceitful and they'll pay the price but the other scab clubs who tried to break away are happy to have the spending that they like. Two TIER football within the one league and now it will be like the wild west.

Guess what, tourists already pay tax on hotel stays…it’s called VAT and it’s currently 20% in the UK. Way higher than our European counterparts who currently have a tourist tax. People are sick of paying TAX and seeing no improvement to quality of life or public services.

Today we mourn the loss of a true sporting icon, Sir Billy Boston, who has passed away surrounded by his family. Rugby League’s first knight, a Wigan legend, and "Everybody's Hero," his legacy on and off the field will endure for eternity. Rest in peace, Sir Billy. 🍒⚪️

Borrowed this from FB. Nails Prem football 100%. Top flight football is truly dead. No point in it no more. It’s not a sport anymore.

Everton fans demand “transparency and fairness after disproportionate sanctions”.  @EFC_AdvisoryBoard issues strong statement “acting on behalf of all Evertonians” calling on “all football authorities to urgently review sanctioning criteria in light of the hugely disproportionate penalties imposed on Chelsea and Everton.   “These recent disciplinary outcomes raise serious concerns about consistency, proportionality, and the integrity of the regulatory framework in place in English football, as demonstrated by both the Premier League and the Football Association. “Whilst all those fans we represent acknowledge that the cases involving Chelsea and Everton are not comparable in terms of the natures of the offences, this does not undermine the key issue of clear and obvious inconsistency in the outcome and the punishments imposed on both clubs.” (Chelsea, in mitigation, self-reported issues from a previous regime). #EFC graphic below from Everton FAB 👇

For those that reckon Wigan get 'everything' This wasn't even given as a penalty last night. Make your own mind up. Direct contact to the head. Flexion as Lukas Mason was bent backwards. Didn't roll around crying. Got up and played on. Harrison absolutely will be charged.
