CIVIC joined a broad coalition of civil society organizations urging US Congress to oppose the proposed $2.8 billion arms transfer to Israel.
If notified, we call on Congress to swiftly advance a joint resolution of disapproval to block the transfer.

I see this new space at Just Security as public service journalism for those who are deeply interested in the military commissions that the United States created after the 9/11 attacks. Don’t look here for legal opinion or national security commentary. Just the facts.
In her first exclusive Guantánamo Dispatch for Just Security, Carol Rosenberg reports from Guantánamo Bay on the upcoming pre-trial hearing in the USS Cole bombing case.

Every president since Bush has made use of the blunt weapon of national security to push their interests, but Trump’s use has been unprecedentedly brazen.
The White House ballroom is national security. Dialing back limits on toxic chemical emissions is national security. Erasing transgender people from public life is national security, too. motherjones.com/politics/202…

We should never forget the horror of 9/11. But it also triggered US detention and “rendition” programs that used torture. @CVTorg is right, a moral and legal reckoning is long overdue. commondreams.org/opinion/9-1…

📣The 2026 state legislative session has come to a close in most states.
As we start to plan for 2027, we’re taking a look back at the work we accomplished together, both in fighting anti-immigrant bills & advancing proactive, welcoming legislation👇

Breaking: A week after the 9/11 trial judge's big decision that threw out a post-torture confession from KSM, the man of accused of being mastermind of the plot... the prosecution team decides they can go ahead without it, won't appeal. nytimes.com/2026/09/04/us/po…

25 Years Ago, 9/11 Triggered a US Crusade of Torture | The impunity of those who orchestrated and carried out these crimes is one of the darkest legacies of the so-called "war on terror" that will forever haunt the nation's history. commondreams.org/opinion/9-1…

Great to see @DeliaCRamirez and 49 House members demand #DHS cancel #ICE’s $17 million shock glove contract. As I told @MotherJones @sophiehurwitz, these gloves are inherently abusive with no legitimate law enforcement purpose.

DHS can’t be trusted with electric shock gloves and the power to inflict "sudden" death.
Today, I led 49 colleagues in demanding @SecMullinDHS immediately cancel DHS’s $16.7 million contract to equip ICE agents with electric shock gloves.

Breaking: In a huge decision in the 9/11 case, the military judge has suppressed the so-called "clean team" confession of the lead defendant known as KSM. This comes days after the same judge set a June 2028 trial date, which could now be in doubt if the prosecution decides to appeal that ruling. nytimes.com/2026/08/28/us/po…

The Association of Detainees and Missing Persons of Sednaya Prison organized five awareness workshops in Yarmouk Camp, in cooperation with @CVTorg and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), as part of its ongoing efforts to defend the rights of survivors and families of the missing.
The workshops focused on introducing participants to the concepts of transitional justice and the Association’s mechanisms of work, alongside discussing practical proposals to restore the dignity of victims of past violations and to provide compensation commensurate with the scale of suffering they endured.
Participants were also given the opportunity to express their views on the pathways to achieve transitional justice that meet their aspirations, contribute to building a more equitable society, safeguard rights, and pave the way for genuine and sustainable reconciliation.

"Why does an agency that claims it has nothing to hide want a weapon that leaves no evidence?"
That's the question ICE's new multi-million-dollar shock-glove purchase can't really answer.

Human rights organizations like Amnesty International have long raised concerns about electric shock devices like the GLOVE, as well as other products that Compliant Technologies sells, like electric shock belts and vests.
The technology is unregulated “despite the clear human rights risks associated with its use,” Amnesty International researchers wrote. motherjones.com/politics/202…
