Storm Boelo continues to bring strong winds to many this morning, with heavy and persistent rain across parts of Scotland, while conditions are drier elsewhere. 🍃
A wet and very windy start to Sunday morning across the north of the UK as Storm Boelo continues to move eastwards ⚠️ Further south, still blustery but a bright start to the day, with sunny spells and scattered showers 🌦️

🚨The Sphinx has melted!🚨 Despite a very considerable dump of fresh snow over the last 36 hours, I regret to inform everyone that Scotland's last piece of snow from the previous winter, The Sphinx, has disappeared. Two seasoned mountain men attended the location in poor weather yesterday, dug down to where the patch would have been, but found nothing. This is the SIXTH year in succession that the Sphinx has melted, and the fifth year in a row that all Scottish snow patches have melted.

When the print edition @thecourieruk went ‘compact’ in 2012, I was on the newsdesk at the time - and one of the recurring ‘complaints’ from readers in the immediate aftermath was ‘how am I going to draw my fire’?!

The Sphinx lives! Today I went into the heart of the Cairngorms to see if Scotland’s final piece of snow from last winter had succumbed to the mild temperatures earlier this week. Amazingly, it continues to defy the odds. Barely 1.5 m long, it surely can’t have long to go!
