Governor Newsom’s approval of AB 1944 supports California’s continued transition to zero-emission buses. Sponsored by the California Transit Association and authored by Assemblymember Alex Lee (@alex_lee), the new law provides temporary axle-weight flexibility for zero-emission transit buses, helping agencies continue purchasing buses that support California’s climate and clean transportation goals. AB 1944 gives transit agencies the flexibility they need to expand zero-emission fleets while continuing to provide reliable service to their communities. Governor Newsom’s signing of AB 1837 will help transit agencies keep bus lanes and transit stops clear. Authored by Assemblymember Mark González and co-sponsored by the California Transit Association, AC Transit, LA Metro, and Streets for All, the new law extends transit agencies’ authority to use camera technology to enforce parking violations in bus-only lanes and at transit stops through 2034. Keeping these areas clear helps buses stay on schedule, improves access for riders, and makes transit safer and more reliable for everyone. Governor Newsom has signed SB 741, sponsored by the California Transit Association and authored by Senator Catherine S. Blakespear. The new law streamlines the Low Carbon Transit Operations Program, reduces outdated reporting requirements, and allows transit agencies to use funding to maintain existing bus, rail, and ferry service. By making state funding more flexible and accessible, SB 741 will help agencies sustain reliable service and advance California’s clean transportation goals. Governor Newsom has signed three bills sponsored and co-sponsored by the California Transit Association to help transit agencies deliver reliable service and advance California's climate goals. The new laws address three priorities for transit agencies and their riders: SB 741 (Blakespear) streamlines state transit funding requirements and allows agencies to use funds to maintain existing service. AB 1837 (Mark González) extends transit agencies' authority to use state-of-the-art technologies to enforce parking violations in bus lanes and at transit stops. AB 1944 (Lee) provides temporary axle weight flexibility to support transit agencies' purchase of zero-emission buses. Local voices. Local choices. A stronger future for transit. The California Transit Association joins transportation leaders statewide in opposing Prop 43, which would raise the threshold for voter-led transit funding measures to a two-thirds supermajority—allowing a small minority to block investments supported by most voters. Protect communities' ability to fund the buses and trains that connect people to jobs, education, and essential services. Vote NO on Prop 43. Learn more: noprop43ca.com/our-coalition
