Not gonna lie. I'd like to see both Paxton and El Sayed lose next week. Regardless of what happens in the big picture, I'd love for both parties to lose big, winnable races because they had no shame.

That Abdul El-Sayed has refused every opportunity to make a simple statement condemning a blatantly false and anti-Semitic ad produced on his behalf tells you pretty much everything you need to know about both his arrogance and his utter contempt for Jewish voters.

On 10 January 1992 a container of 28,800 plastic bath toys (yellow ducks, red beavers, blue turtles and green frogs) went overboard from a container ship in a winter storm near the Date Line. Ten months later the first ones washed up near Sitka, Alaska, and oceanographers began using them to study ocean currents.
This video is a drift simulation. 3,000 virtual ducks start at the spill point and drift with the daily surface current, plus about 3% of the wind pushing on the floating toy. The first simulated duck reaches the shore on day 325. The real first finds near Sitka came on day 311. After two years most of the simulated ducks are ashore in British Columbia and southeast Alaska, and a few have reached Washington, Oregon and California.
Current and wind records do not go back to 1992, so the simulation uses the currents and winds of 1995 and 1996, the first years with both on record.

Your party was literally in government when jihadists carried out the deadliest massacre of Jews ever. That is an extraordinary fact to overlook while lecturing others about defending Jews from jihad. The degree of delusion among your party is staggering.

Let me introduce you to a fellow named Max Naumann.
In 1934, Naumann, a German Jew, urged fellow Jews to support Adolf Hitler. He defended the Nazi regime even as it persecuted Jews, and actually petitioned Hitler for the right of Jews to fly the German flag.
In 1935, the Gestapo dissolved his organization and threw him in prison, where he attempted suicide. He died of cancer in 1939, before the Holocaust, but not before discovering how little his loyalty to the Nazis was worth.
I'm not comparing Abdul El-Sayed to Hitler. I'm questioning the idea that a Jewish endorsement is, by itself, evidence of what's best for Jewish safety.
From the Hellenizing Jewish elites of ancient Jerusalem to Jewish supporters of Iran's Islamic Revolution, we have examples throughout our history of Jews aligning themselves with political movements that ultimately turned against them.
Their motivations differed, as did the consequences. But there's a lesson in Max Naumann's story that's worth remembering.
Being Jewish has never made anyone immune to being catastrophically wrong about what's good for Jews.

We know how much it matters to live in a country where our rights are protected, where the law applies equally to everyone, and where the majority canโt just decide that some people donโt deserve the same freedoms. The safety and freedom weโve found in America didnโt happen by accident. They exist because of democracy. And protecting democracy means protecting Jewish safety, too.
We know what happens when those protections start to break down. When courts are weakened, elections are undermined, and people lose equal protection under the law, minorities are often the first to pay the price. Jews have seen this throughout our history. Itโs one of the reasons so many of our families sought refuge in democratic countries.
Thatโs why I find it so alarming to see whatโs happening right now. When masked government agents are taking people off the streets and citizens are being shot in public, we should all be worried about where things are headed. As Jews, we know that when a government starts targeting certain groups of people, no one should assume theyโre safe from what comes next.
Mike Rogers has chosen to align himself with a movement that is willing to attack our democracy. He stood with Trump and refused to accept the results of the 2020 election. And now weโre seeing what happens when a political movement treats the rights and dignity of certain people as disposable. For Jews, these things should set off alarm bells.
Jewish safety is tied to the health of our democracy. We canโt protect one without protecting the other. And in this Senate race, Abdul is the candidate who understands that and is willing to fight for it.

Thereโs so much to unpack here.
The *entire* New Mexico economy (in 2025) is ~$125bn. The *entire* state budget is only ~$11bn.
So, these penalties would be roughly a fifth of the stateโs economy and more than *double* the fiscal budget for 2026.
Ludicrous. Itโs reminiscent of Europeโs targeting of American tech firms. Except this actually exceeds any judgment under the DSA or DMA. If we criticize Europe for being anti-tech (we do and we should), New Mexico deserves at least the same ire.
โBut Meta is a big company, they can afford it.โ Sure, okay. If theyโre forced to maybe they can afford this. But no company can afford being perpetually hammered by nonsense penalties. If NM can secure 25bn, what can CA, TX, FL collect with their significantly larger populations?
And this is far from hypothetical. States have started eyeing tech for these sort of judgments in recent years. And Iโd be shocked if others arenโt watching this thinking they can line their coffers with similar suits.
If so, we can kiss our tech and innovation dominance goodbye. AI supremacy? Energy innovation and infrastructure build out? Good luck.
But thatโs *just* the financial and policy absurdity.
If you dig deeper, this litigation is riddled with First Amendment problemsโas @TraceTheLaw explained, the majority of this case and the penalties centered around Metaโs alleged misstatements around how it moderates content.
The Supreme Court made clear that states cannot meddle with content moderation decisions. Those choices are protected by the First Amendment. See Moody v. @NetChoice.
And the government cannot do indirectly what it cannot do directly. See @NRA v. Vullo.
But thatโs exactly what NMโs case does. Theyโre trying to get at content through the back door, pretending they can evade the First Amendment.
Itโs egregious. And Iโm looking forward to Metaโs appeal.
