Is there any more hollowed out title or descriptor than ‘Digital Creator’? I think not.

Nearly a quarter of young Australians sometimes prefer to hang out with an AI, and nearly one tenth have opted for an AI lover. As AI grows more capable, we should make sure it strengthens human connection rather than replacing it. My speech at the National Press Club: andrewleigh.com/speech_what_… #auspol #AI

I have read & re-read this superb @clairlemon piece in @thedispatch on AI, Anthropic, human consciousness, and why & how the Church both understands any EA cult & its dangers as well as AI's uses under the Augustinian mathematician Pope Leo thedispatch.com/article/cath…

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

Yesterday, @wesleymission lodged its submission on the Federal Government's proposed Online Safety Amendment (Digital Duty of Care) Bill 2026. A duty of care should address one of the most significant and foreseeable harms occurring online today: gambling harm.

The tragic succession of deaths through domestic and family violence this past weekend is heart-breaking. Our prayers are with the families, communities and first responders affected. The stories are harrowing. Every death is one too many. 1/3

Every act of violence directed towards a woman or a child is an outrage. Every child deserves to grow up safe. As a community we must do better at preventing violence against women and children. 2/3

At @wesleymission, we see every day the importance of early intervention, support for children and families, safe housing, and accountability for people who use violence. Preventing violence must remain a first order national priority.

Last Saturday I stepped into the enormous privilege of sharing a message of hope at the Wesley Lifeforce Suicide Memorial Service overlooking the beautiful Sydney Harbour. Here's my reflection. stucameron1.substack.com/p/t…

Added a little something to the signs outside the Angel Hotel... We ban smoking indoors. We have road rules to keep people safe. Yet in NSW, pokies can continue operating through the early hours of the morning, when gambling harm is often at its worst.

$4.75B lost to pokies in NSW in the first 6 months of 2026. 7% higher than the same period last year, almost twice the rate of inflation - in the midst of a cost of living crunch. Obscene. Historically, NSW pokies are NSW Labor’s mess. NSW Labor MUST fix it.

‘Renowned theologian N. T. Wright estimates that about 20% of his theology is probably wrong. Even more humbling is the admission that he doesn’t know which 20% is wrong. That should be enough to cure anyone of certainty…’

Australia’s gambling industry is grubby, cynical and exploitative - doing less than the bare minimum to prevent harm while doing all it can to maximise its super profits. All enabled by pathetically weak governments terrified of industry lobbyists and addicted to gaming taxes.

Gambling harm doesn’t discriminate, impacting every postcode and demographic in our country. That’s why our governments need to grow a spine and implement urgently needed reforms rather than kowtow to the conga line of vested interests desperate to protect their rivers of gold.

How Governments delay systemic reform of gambling industries: 1. Announce inquiry and appoint members. 2. Receive report and recommendation of inquiry and then ignore for 2-3 years. 3. Announce anemic ‘reforms’ that bear little resemblance to inquiry recommendations.

Good piece on a blind spot in the gambling debate. Older Australians deserve protection from gambling harm wherever it occurs, including in venues with poker machines. thesenior.com.au/story/93336…

Some important perspective on the terrible inadequacy of gambling ‘reforms’ before parliament. The @TheAusInstitute reports that the 5 largest online wagering companies in Australia won $5.4B from punters in 2023-24, yet paid only $100M in company tax. Outrageous.
