Perception vs. reality The Indiana Fever's pursuit of a WNBA title hinges on the franchise's ability to confront where those two things converge and the environment created as a result. ✍️: AC + @_Brian_Hamilton nytimes.com/athletic/7708662…

Always read Jon but definitely read him writing about KAT. A great story on a star by a writer who has seen his career arc up close.
“I was just never going to change who I was, even when the world was asking me to change who I was, to be a character in their story.” A candid Karl-Anthony Towns goes deep with @TheAthletic on turmoil, tragedy and triumph Free to read: nytimes.com/athletic/7618092…

This season, the Washington Mystics have danced and delighted their way into WNBA relevancy. Along the way, they anointed themselves with a nickname: The “Young Hos.” The name undercuts the fun, unafraid women behind it, writes @CandaceDBuckner nytimes.com/athletic/7637372…

They were so close, but the Colts are now 0-2 after an overtime loss to the Chiefs, their ninth straight loss dating to last season. And the latest defeat came with injuries to Alec Pierce and Sauce Gardner. @CandaceDBuckner on the heartbreak in Indy: nyti.ms/4iAVmaL

Jayden Daniels is hurt, Javon Kinlaw went in the locker room, Brandon Coleman has a finger injury and now Sam Cosmi just went in the locker room with two trainers by his side. Absolutely brutal day.

Outstanding column by @ByJasonLloyd: “When a player asks what the moment of silence is for, when a child asks why the stadium suddenly stopped moving, it’s our turn to answer. Never Forget was our promise. Never Let Them Forget is what we owe them.“ nytimes.com/athletic/7577225…

New @espn: @kalynkahler and I explored how the Patriots and Mike Vrabel survived a wild off-season that tested one of the NFL's dirtiest words: distraction. Plus the ripple effects of a tabloid scandal for women reporters, NFL coaches and comms staffs. espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/4983…

In 2025, Ava Harvey, then a senior at Oberlin College, decided to write about the football team. The Yeomen had finished 1–9 each of the previous two seasons; when she started working on her column, the team was already 0–4, almost halfway to its eventual record of 0–10. But she believed that the school and its students should support the team more. She argued that “the majority of students are, at best, indifferent—if not outright hostile—to the sport” and noted that “the “homogenized coastal culture historically propagated by the school”—despite Oberlin’s campus being in northern Ohio—“alienates Midwest athletes seeking a sense of home.” After the article ran, something weird happened: people at Oberlin began talking about the team. Jesse Dougherty writes about how an op-ed in support of football divided a liberal-arts campus: newyorkermag.visitlink.me/Uf…
