DEVELOPMENT MUST NOT COME AT THE EXPENSE OF THE PEOPLE! True leadership under the Reset Nigeria vision means delivering critical infrastructure while listening to, protecting, and addressing the concerns of affected communities. Governor Seyi Makinde recently met with residents affected by Phase 1 of the 110km Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road project, particularly those who were left out during the initial valuation exercises. Following the engagement, approximately ₦4.6 billion has been approved to settle outstanding compensation claims for Phase 1, with assurances that Phase 2 payments will be made before the end of the year. In addition, densely populated areas are being protected through fencing along the 75-metre corridor to help minimise displacement and safeguard homes. Infrastructure is important, but so are the people whose lives and communities it affects. Development must be inclusive, accountable, and people-centred. That is the conversation Nigeria needs.
