MORE PHILLY CORRUPTION: POLICE OVERSIGHT COMMISSION CHAIR ACCUSED OF SELLING CONFIDENTIAL WITNESS INFORMATION FOR $500
PHILADELPHIA — The chairman of Philadelphia’s Citizens Police Oversight Commission, an agency tasked with promoting police accountability and transparency, has been arrested on bribery and witness intimidation charges.
Hassan Bennett, 43, allegedly sold confidential information about a witness in an attempted murder case to Thomas Scott, 45, a defendant accused of trying to silence that witness.
According to prosecutors, Bennett obtained unredacted police reports containing the witness’s identity and provided the information to Scott in exchange for $500.
Investigators say a recorded prison phone call captured Bennett reading information from the report to Scott.
Prosecutors also allege Scott made threats against the witness on social media, including threatening to kill them.
Bennett worked as a bail navigator for the Defender Association of Philadelphia while serving as chairman of the city’s police oversight commission.
The DA’s Gun Violence Task Force investigated the alleged scheme.
Bennett faces charges including bribery, witness intimidation and conspiracy. His bail was set at $1 million.
The Defender Association says it is cooperating with investigators and moving to terminate his employment.
Bennett has chaired the oversight commission since 2024.
He previously spent nearly 13 years imprisoned for a 2006 murder before his conviction was overturned and he was acquitted in 2019. He later reached a $4 million wrongful-conviction settlement with Philadelphia.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Both Bennett and Scott are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

“To ignore evil is to become an accomplice to it.” -MLK Jr.
Matthew Farwell’s actions have been missed, ignored, buried, or some combination of such by the Norfolk County DA’s office. To this day, no action has been taken against him for his crimes against Sandra Birchmore.
FACT: Massachusetts carries NO statute of limitations for aggravated rape of a minor or other child abuse offenses. 🔥
Will @djunaperkins, the primary candidate for Norfolk County DA, charge Matthew Farwell with aggravated child SA if she takes office? Will he be held responsible by the state for the death of Sandra and her unborn baby?
There never was a time to turn a blind eye to the issue, but this would be a great opportunity for Perkins to show that she is deserving of the votes she received in the primary by declaring intent of prosecuting Farwell on behalf of the Commonwealth.

"What did it mean, that date, April 10, 2013?"
"Well, Sandra Birchmore was 15 at the time, and the defendant was more than 10 years older, so it would be aggravated rape. The defendant was 27. Ms. Birchmore was 15."
Got him.

When Sandra Birchmore was found dead, her best friend, Lesley Davis, knew exactly where the fingers should point. Overcome with grief and suspicion, she did what any responsible citizen would do: she marched straight into the Canton Police Department to tell them that Stoughton police officer Matthew Farwell needed to be investigated immediately.
"I implicated Matthew Farwell", she testifies to on October 15th, 2026.
But instead of triggering a swift, meticulous police response, her desperate warning seemingly vanished into thin air.
During her emotional testimony at the federal trial of Matthew Farwell, Davis revealed the jaw-dropping complacency of the Canton Police Department. Here is a breakdown of everything the Canton Police failed to do when a crucial witness walked through their doors:
🔹️They did not take a single note - Davis testified that she sat down and spoke with two men at the department, implicating Farwell directly. Despite the gravity of her allegations, neither man bothered to pick up a pen or record a single word she said.
🔹️They did not log an official report - Because no notes were taken, no official police report or paper trail was generated to document her visit or the critical intelligence she provided.
🔹️They did not follow up - Her warning was treated with complete indifference, leaving a grieving friend unheard and a potential suspect uninvestigated by the local department at a critical juncture.
It shouldn't take a federal investigation to get the police to do basic paperwork. Davis did her part to seek justice for Sandra; the Canton Police Department completely failed to do theirs.
