You’re at a museum ticket desk. You know the word biglietto, but how do you turn it into a polite request? Vorrei un biglietto. I would like a ticket. Vorrei means “I would like.” It gives you a useful opening for saying what you want without sounding too direct. Change what comes after it: Vorrei due biglietti. = I would like two tickets. Vorrei una mappa. = I would like a map. Notice that biglietto becomes biglietti when you ask for two. Vorrei stays the same because you’re still saying what you would like. You can also add per favore: Vorrei un biglietto, per favore. I would like a ticket, please. Your turn: imagine the person at the desk waiting for your request. Ask for one ticket, then two. Say the full sentence each time, so vorrei becomes a beginning you can reach for easily. Practice making requests of your own with ItalianChat. Free to try for 3 days: learnitalianpod.com/italianc…

Pope Leo XIV has expressed joy and enthusiasm about his upcoming Apostolic Journey to Latin America, as the Holy See Press Office confirmed his visit to Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru on November 6-17. In a statement released by the Holy See Press Office, Pope Leo expressed his hopes that the visit to Latin America will strength Christians’ commitment to proclaiming the Gospel. “I am looking forward to returning to the continent where I’ve experienced so many moments of my life," said the Pope. "May this journey be an occasion for us to open our hearts to one another, strengthen our communion as brothers and sisters, and renew our commitment to proclaiming the Gospel with joy.” The Pope’s doctors report that his recovery is progressing well, with recent tests confirming his good health, which will allow him to undertake his upcoming Apostolic Journey. "Dr. Luigi Carbone confirms that the Holy Father’s recovery after the surgery continues, and the latest medical examinations attest to his good health and favorable clinical condition," said the statement.

♰🇨🇦 GLORIOUS BASILICA OF OUR LADY 🇨🇦♰ Blessed Virgin Mary pray for Canada and for us 🙏 🎥 Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal (Basilique Notre-Dame de Montréal), Montreal, Quebec, Canada 🇨🇦 The interior of the church is amongst the most dramatic in the world and regarded as a masterpiece of Gothic Revival architecture. The vaults are coloured deep blue and decorated with golden stars, and the rest of the sanctuary is decorated in blues, azures, reds, purples, silver, and gold. It is filled with hundreds of intricate wooden carvings and several religious statues. Unusual for a church, the stained glass windows along the walls of the sanctuary do not depict biblical scenes, but rather scenes from the religious history of Montreal. It also has a Casavant Frères pipe organ, dated 1891, which comprises four keyboards, 99 stops using electromagnetic action and an adjustable combination system, 7000 individual pipes, and a pedal board. Approximately 11 million people visit Notre-Dame Basilica every year, making it one of the most visited monuments in North America. In 2023, Notre-Dame was named the 6th most beautiful building in the world by Angi, a home service publication which analyzes TripAdvisor reviews. The publication ranked Notre-Dame de Paris second after Barcelona's Sagrada Família.
♰ 🇨🇦 Oldest Church in Canada 🇨🇦 ♰ 🎥 Cathedral-Basilica of Notre-Dame de Québec, Canada 🇨🇦 It is the oldest church in Canada and the first to be elevated to the rank of minor basilica in 1874 by Pope Pius IX. The site has housed a place of worship since 1633, with the original structure built in 1647 as Notre-Dame-de-la-Paix. The current building, largely reconstructed after fires and bombardment (notably in 1759 and 1922), features a neoclassical façade and a neo-baroque interior adorned with gold leaf and three Casavant organs.

Saint Cedd, also known as Cedda, was an Anglo-Saxon monk, missionary, and bishop of the seventh century. He was born around 620 in the kingdom of Northumbria, the eldest of four brothers—Cedd, Chad (Ceadda), Cynibil, and Caelin—all of whom became priests. He was educated at the monastery of Lindisfarne under Saint Aidan and formed in the Celtic tradition of Iona. In 653 King Oswiu of Northumbria sent Cedd with three other priests to evangelize the Middle Angles at the request of their ruler Peada. Shortly afterward he was sent to the East Saxons to assist their recently baptized king Sigeberht. His mission proved successful. Bishop Finan of Lindisfarne, assisted by two other bishops, consecrated him bishop of the East Saxons around 654. He built churches, ordained clergy, and founded monasteries, notably at Ythancæstir (Bradwell-on-Sea), where the chapel of St Peter-on-the-Wall still stands within the ruins of the Roman fort of Othona, and at Tilbury on the Thames. He also re-established a Christian presence in London, though Bede does not style him bishop of London. On visits to Northumbria he obtained land from the sub-king Æthelwald of Deira and founded the monastery of Lastingham in Yorkshire. He prepared the site by fasting and prayer for forty days and became its first abbot while remaining bishop of the East Saxons. At the Synod of Whitby in 664, which resolved the dispute between the Celtic and Roman calculations of Easter, Cedd served as interpreter for the Celtic party. Although trained in the Celtic observance, he accepted the Roman decision and introduced it in his diocese. Shortly afterward, while visiting Lastingham, he contracted the yellow plague then ravaging Northumbria and died there on 26 October 664. He was first buried in the open churchyard; later his body was translated to the right of the high altar in the stone church of St Mary that replaced the original wooden building. About thirty monks who had come from Essex to be near him also died of the plague. His remains are associated with the crypt of the present parish church at Lastingham. His feast is kept on 26 October in the West and on 7 January in the East. He is venerated as the evangelist of the Middle Angles and East Saxons and as a co-patron of Essex and Lastingham.

Beginning with the question posed in Sundayʼs Gospel, “Which commandment in the law is the greatest?” Pope Leo XIV focused his reflection before the Angelus on the theme of love. The faithful gathered in St. Peterʼs Square awaited the words of hope from the vicar of Christ, their pope. At the heart of love, Leo XIV placed our relationship with God, emphasizing that this is where the true meaning of love is found. “Indeed, it is not enough to know that God exists, that he is the only God, or that he is the Almighty. The Lord seeks a personal relationship with us: The one true God wants to become our God,” the pope said. “In our encounter with him, the commandment of love is neither an obligation nor an imposition.” He then turned to the meaning of authentic love, explaining that “our love can be authentic only when it is a response to his love, which always precedes us. From this arises the need for a total commitment that involves the whole person: heart, soul, and mind.” Heart, soul, and mind must all be engaged in our relationship with God so that we become capable of looking at ourselves “and our neighbors through the eyes of Christ, from his perspective. In this way, selfishness is overcome and even love for oneself becomes charity: Our existence turns toward the other and becomes a gift for those around us.” Toward the end of his reflection, the pope quoted St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus, who wrote: “Love alone” makes “the Church’s members act, and if Love ever became extinct, apostles would not preach the Gospel.” The theme, in this case, concerns the Church itself. Without love, the pope stressed, “our faith would be deprived of its essence, our good works would be reduced to mere moralism, and our hope would be in vain.” He added: “Dear friends, we cannot truly love God unless this love overflows into love for our brothers and sisters. And we cannot truly love our neighbor except as children of the same Father who loved us first in his Son, Jesus.” Following the Marian prayer, Leo XIV turned his attention to the humanitarian crisis in Yemen. “I am following with concern the grave humanitarian situation in Yemen, particularly in the city of Taiz, where the population is suffering from a lack of food, water, and medical care,” he said. “I make a heartfelt appeal for hostilities to cease and for the Yemeni people and all the peoples of the region to be guaranteed the right to live in peace.” The pope also remembered the victims of a terrorist attack against Orthodox Christians in Jordan. It was a great pleasure meeting Senior @AKasingye and listening to his words of wisdom. It is one thing to join the Force, but quite another to retire successfully after attaining the highest rank. Such shouldn't be taken for granted, it is a blessing from God. Whenever there is an opportunity, take time to learn from such experiences and tap into their wisdom. Here comes another brother @HassanH06295341 now an employee of @TayariSecurity is a young man you would never regret interacting with. He is exceptionally positive, humble and full of admirable qualities. Everything about this young man reflects a good spirit and a promising future. May God continue to guide & bless you
